Another Day, Another Boycott

Outside of a single song by Weird Al Yankovic from his album “In 3-D” which dates back to 1984, I had no idea who the heck Amway was or is. Amway is one of those Christian businesses that loves to engage in very unChristian behaviors. For decades, the company’s president Doug DeVos has given to a cause that seeks to undermine help for the poor, equality to all, and anything that allows people to have some kind of better life. He’s donated a lot of money to the Republican Party.

Over their history, Amway has been accused of unethical business practices and Big Brother tactics, but they have never been formally charged with anything.

Back in 2009, Amway’s president Doug DeVos donated some $500,000 to the National Organization for Marriage. According to an Amway spokeswoman, “As private citizens, the DeVos family supports causes and organizations that advocate for policies aligned to their personal beliefs.” The donation came from the Douglas and Maria DeVos Foundation and not the company.

Let us be honest, so far, there have been very few boycotts that have worked. By and large, they don’t.

I hope you do not become a Gay Bully like the A-hole who bullied the Chic-a-fill employee.

That would undermine your goals somewhat.

    Boycotts are silly and stupid.

Boycotts can be effective if properly utilized, which OMM and their ilk (Thankfully) hasn’t figured out how to do.

And there’s a$$holes in every group, though it is sometimes hard to separate what you think of them from what you think of the group as a whole. A fact I have to remind myself of often.

Admitedly it’s easier to have a successful boycott when the lions share of physical holdings are in a relatively small area. Easier then trying to boycott a company with locations worldwide (Where most people wouldn’t give a tinker’s damn about it anyway) or sells their product in every store in the country. I wish you luck Fred.

Thanks Bridgette and thanks for listing all the Amway family holdings. This Boycott will work. I have a good track record on my previous boycotts. Settled 2 and our boycott of the Manchester Grand Hyatt owned by Doug Manchester (who gave $125,000 to pass Prop 8) cost him a lot of money. He ADMITTED to losing $9 million in the first nine months because of the boycott. He finally ended up selling the hotel last year. Have lots planned to bring Amway to the table.

      Fred,

I’m glad to hear that you have more planned than just a simple boycott. A lot of times, these simple boycotts just don’t work. Still, just letting us all know who has been donating to the anti-gay causes is a big boon to begin with.
