“Emer’s Mixtape Mondays”: The Return of the Spice Girls?

Simon Fuller, who is known for his involvement with television shows like “American Idol” and “The X Factor“, stumbled across a group of young girls, in the early 1990′s, who appeared to him as five little pieces of British gold.  In 1994 when the group of outrageous girls formed, they had no idea they would turn into one of the worlds most famous girl groups.  This group was called the Spice Girls.  They recorded, and released, their first single “Wannabe” in 1996, and from there they started climbing up the musical money making ladder; almost quicker than any musical group in the world.  Their names: Melanie Chisholm (“Sporty Spice”), Emma Bunton (“Baby Spice“), Melanie Brown (“Scary Spice”), Victoria Beckham (“Posh Spice“), and Geri Halliwell (“Ginger Spice”) were heard over radio waves, and through the tele, all over the world within the first few weeks of their first debut album release date.

By the end of their career, The Spice Girls had sold over 75 million records world wide and had become the best selling female group of all time.  They made an estimate of $500-800 million dollars between 1996 and 1998 becoming the most successful money making engines in the world.

On May 31, 1998, Halliwell unexpectedly left the group in the middle of numerous rumors, and the band completely fell apart shortly after the remaining four members recorded the album “Forever” in November of 2000.

In December of 2007 the band got back together for a reunion tour that swept the world like no other.  Despite a short run, the tour had brought in over $100 million and won the Billboard 2008 Touring Award.  There has been many rumors of them recording a new album in the near future, but no answer has been released yet.  However, the Spice Girls performed a medley of “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life” at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony on August 12, 2012, reuniting only for the event.  There is something in the works, because they are continuously spotted together and seem to be working on something privately.  Is it a new album, a movie, or just an attempt to show the world that they are still alive?

Thanks for tuning in and I will see you next Monday, and now lets enjoy some of the Spice Girl’s music from the past…
