Awwww….poor Peter LaBarbera. Apparently the fact that more Republicans are supporting same-sex marriage is starting to sting a bit over at Americans For Truth About Homosexuality. LaBarbera is upset that the Illinois Republican Delegation is partnering with Equality Illinois to shut down Chick-fil-A in that state.
Now, there are reasons why this move by EQIL is stupid, divisive and unnecessary. For instance, one could point out that sometimes punishing a business for the views of their CEO hurts the employees who rely upon those pay checks. You could argue that Dan Cathy did not mean that it was the policy of his company to be discriminatory. Or you could just say that it looks vindictive to attack a business in this manner. You could even look into suggesting that these franchises consider changing companies.
Rather than coming up with a decent argument why punishing these franchises is wrong, LaBarbera decided to attack using the usual homophobic dog whistle language. The “homosexual pressure group Equality Illinois”, as LaBarbera put it, has a petition that they delivered to the Illinois GOP. That petition reads, in part, “This petition will be given to stakeholders in Illinois who lease, rent or allow Chick-fil-A to continue to sell its hate-filled homophobic ‘Chikin,” asking them to cut ties.”
Equality Illinois (EQ), the leading “gay” pressure group in the state, is sponsoring the IL-GOP event by covering the bar tab at the IL-GOP “Beachside Cocktail Hour” this evening in Clearwater, FL, where the Illinois delegation is staying. EQ, which lobbies aggressively to legalize homosexual “marriage” in the state, curiously combined its sponsorship with a fierce condemnation of the GOP’s conservative platform — particularly the party’s call for a federal marriage amendment.
Recently, Equality Illinois led a pro-homosexual “Flick-the-hate” campaign to pressure leasing and rental companies to cut ties with the 19 Chick-fil-A restaurants in Illinois. Equality Illinois’ online petition (shown above) “will be given to key stakeholders in Illiniois who lease, rent or allow Chick-fil-A to continue to sell their hate-filled homophobic ‘Chiken,’ asking them to cut ties.” EQ joined other homosexual groups across the country in attacking Chick-fil-A after its COO, Dan Cathy, defended Christian family values including natural marriage as one-man, one-woman.
Ah yes, rather than coming up with an argument, we must endure the usual run of idiocy and vacuousness.
Well, Dan Rutherford, IL State Treasurer, is Mitt Romney’s state campaign manager, and he apparently made his feelings clear regarding anyone offended by EQIL’s sponsorship for the event. Those who don’t like it “can go someplace else and drink.” Given the GOP’s track record, expect that it will be at a lesbian-themed bondage club.
While EQIL is willing to sponsor the supporters of equality in the GOP, they are still critical of them. EQIL CEO Bernard Cherkasov stated “The proposed Republican platform flies in the face of the growing national consensus behind equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in general and marriage equality specifically. The language shows that the Romney-Ryan ticket, whose anti-LGBT positions are well known, has allowed the far right in the Republican Party to hijack the convention process.”
Matt Barber, the VP of Liberty Counsel Action and Board Chairman of AFTAH, was furious stating “We’ve known for years now that the IL GOP’s leadership has been made-up of left-leaning RINOs, but have they completely gone off the liberal deep end? They’re partnering here with one of the most bigoted anti-Christian, anti-Republican outfits in America. This is like the NAACP forging an alliance with skinheads at its national convention. Is [Romney IL campaign chief] Rutherford intentionally trying to alienate the base of the Republican Party? It’s reprehensible, not to mention just plain stupid.”
We look forward to the day that the Republicans decide to start burning Ronald Reagan in effigy over his political positions.
As for LaBarbera…I’ll bet that it really hurts to have the Republican Party start drifting away from you leaving you like a jilted groom standing at the altar as your boyfriend walks away.
