It’s Weird Al Wednesdays here at LezGetReal. To celebrate his coming to my home town, we’re running Weird Al on Wednesdays until the concert, and if there is an original to the featured song, well, we’ll run that too. Tonight’s song was based off of The Kinks’ song Lola.

The song was originally written back in 1980 when The Empire Strikes Back was released, but Weird Al had trouble getting permission from Lucas and then from The Kinks’ record studio. Well, when Weird Al met the original author of the song, Ray Davies, he asked why Davies had turned him down. It turns out that the record company had turned down Weird Al’s request, not Davies, and Davies gave his permission then and there.
