Chechyan Court Blocks “Sam Bacile’s” Anti-Islamic Film

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula’s film “Innocence of Muslims” has been banned by a court in Grozny, Checnhya, Russia. The court said that the film was “extremist and inciting religious and ethnic hatred.” The film that Nakoula created under the name Sam Bacile sparked violence and protests in the Middle East.

Nakoula was arrested by authorities in California for violating his probation. He was on probation after pleading no contest to charges of bank fraud. He was banned from using computers for the length of his probation.

It is unclear if the ban will apply only to Chechnya or to all of Russia. A court in Moscow is set to consider a request to ban the film as well. Russia has warned Google that it could ban all access to YouTube if the court order was not followed. Google’s Russian spokeswoman Inessa Roman-Pogorzhelskaya indicated that they would block access to the anti-Islamic film if they receive a court order.
