“Dear Daughter. Welcome to America. Your share of Obama’s debt is over $50,000, and it grows every day. Obama’s policies are making harder on women.”

This is the opening of a new Romney ad which seems to be aimed at making people go d’awww and vote for Romney. This is despite the fact that what follows is a lot of lies or truths used to hide lies. The unfortunate reality for Romney is that many of the policies that he pushes make life harder on women not easier.

The Republican Party has opposed attempts to ensure that women get equal pay for equal work. They oppose the right of women to decide what happens to their bodies. They oppose the right of women to marry other women. The Republicans also oppose funding to prevent pregnancies, especially among the poor.

Republicans have also not been able to directly show how the national debt directly hurts people as a whole. Instead, they use this vague notion that it hurts them to bolster their attempts to scare Americans into voting for them. People understand what harm being denied an abortion, contraception, or marriage rights does, and they certainly understand the damage of not being paid the same as men does to their family.
