Libyans Honor Ambassador Stevens

One last posting on this horrible day.

If you don’t subscribe to Yahoo News, Google “RIP Christopher Stevens: Libyans denounce acts of terrorism.”  Reuters has posted eight photos of a demonstration in Benghazi against the murder of Ambassador Stevens, a man known and respected throughout the city.

The early reports from Libya had said that Ambassador Stevens, Steve Smith and the other personnel had died in a car that was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.  We now know that the Ambassador died inside or just outside the burning building, possibly of smoke inhalation.  We will obviously know more as the investigations proceed and the bodies are returned to America for autopsy and burial.  The attack on the consulate was not part of the anti-movie protest, but a planned terrorist attack, possibly part of a string of attacks which have occurred since al Qaida’s second-in-command, a Libyan man named Abu Yahya al Libi, was killed in June.

The right wing reports that Ambassador Stevens was “killed, tortured and dragged through the streets” are inflammatory and wrong.  Libyans rescued Stevens from the burning building, or found him collapsed outside of it and carried him to a hospital, where every attempt was made to save his life.

The Libyan government has agreed to an aggressive campaign to find the group responsible for the attack on our consulate and the safe house.   They are accepting the presence of a special Marine unit and two American warships off their coast.

Egyptian police are protecting our embassy in Cairo and have clashed with the on-going protesters.

We also now know that the film at the core of the Egyptian protests, and used as cover for the terrorist attack in Benghazi was a massive fraud.  California authorities have confirmed that there is no Sam Bacile, no permits for filming were applied for, no records exist of the film being made.  One actress from the film, Cindy Garcia, has come forward and explained that they were filming a movie called Desert Warriors, set around 2,000 years ago, before Islam was founded.  All of the dialogue was stripped and new dialogue was dubbed.

We are trying to gather and report only those things that are officially verified.
