Major League Eating Calls Off Bacon Contests Amid Bacon Shortage

OK for competition

The unavoidable global bacon shortage predicted by experts has caused some issues to arise with major league eating competitions. In fact, Major League Eating president Richard Shea has called off all bacon eating contests. Shea stated that“We cannot, in good conscience, allow [top ranked eater] Joey Chestnut to eat bacon during a global pork shortage. We estimate that Joey alone could eat 20 pounds of bacon in 10 minutes of competition.”

The MLE release also encourages their competitors to avoid bacon in their daily meals. The only exception to the no-bacon rule is bacon-wrapped scallops. That contest uses little bacon and what is eaten is mainly scallops, according to MLE.
