NAACP Leader Bob Ross Supports Marriage Equality In Maryland

Bob Ross, the president of the NAACP’s Prince George’s branch, has released a video supporting same-sex marriage and Maryland’s ballot Question 6, also known as the Civil Marriage Protection Act. He makes the move a few days before prominent Black clergy are expected to announce their backing for marriage equality.

Ross states in the video that “Question 6 gives gays and lesbians the right to obtain a marriage license. It doesn’t force the church, clergy, or anyone to marry them. It is the fair thing to do for all citizens in the state of Maryland.”

Reverend Delman Coates, the pastor of the 8000-member Mt. Ennon Baptist Church, will be joining several other Black clergy including Reverend Al Sharpton this upcoming Friday to endorse Question 6. The move comes in the wake of the announced support from the NAACP and President Barack Obama for marriage equality earlier this year.
