CNN Interviews Bryan Fischer, Host Ends Interview In Disgust

Moderate media bias is where news organizations go out of their way to present a supposed fair and balanced view on an issue even if doing so means giving voice to people who are on the fringe. There are some indications that this trend may now be reversing itself. CNN’s Carol Costello ended an interview with the American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer rather abruptly after Fischer continued to spew anti-gay rhetoric on the air.
The interview lasted for four minutes in which Costello read a 2010 quote from Fischer stating that Adolf Hitler recruited gay men as Nazi Stormtroopers. In 2010, Fischer stated that “Hitler discovered that he could not get straight soldiers to be savage, and brutal and vicious enough to carry out his orders, but that homosexual soldiers had no limit to the savagery and brutality they were willing to inflict on whoever Hitler would send them after.”
Fischer attempted to elaborate on that, but Costello interrupted him stating “that, by many people’s standards would be hate speech.” Fischer then responded by saying that homosexuality has “known health risks”. At that point, Costello ended the interview stating “I’m going to end this interview right here, because that’s just not true. I’m sorry, that’s just not true. Mr. Fischer, thanks for sharing your views, I guess.”
Costello could, of course, have done a better job countering Fischer. It should be noted that some 150,000 gay men were known to have been sent to the concentration and death camps to be experimented upon. According to several sources, the whole ex-gay therapy movement has its roots in the experiments conducted by the Nazis. It is known that Nazi scientists attempted to ‘cure’ men of being gay. Many more gay men were sent to prisons where they served long sentences and many died. Lesbians were usually lumped in under disordered women.
Costello could, however, have just not bothered to bring Fischer onto the network. It is obvious that he has nothing to say or add to the discussion. What he has said is demonstrably false and should not be aired at all.
Moderate media bias has given voice to many people who can be reasonably ignored in the debate. Unfortunately, claims of Liberal bias in the media have forced many networks to bring in people to discuss issues that should have been left out of the discussions.
