Threats to have him investigated have not dissuaded Fred Karger as he and Rights Equal Rights have weathered a salvo from the National Organization for Marriage and returned fire filing three separate State Bar complaints against NOM chair John Charles Eastman. All five of the actions were sent to Eastman via certified mail and all relate to the fact that Eastman and NOM have refused to obey a US Supreme Court ruling stating that they must report all their donors in their anti-marriage crusade.
Karger stated:
“Today I have filed formal grievance complaints against John Charles Eastman with the Attorney Discipline System of the State Bar of California, the Maine Board of Overseers and the State Bar of South Dakota.”
“I have requested investigations and immediate disciplinary action against Mr. Eastman in his official capacity as Chairman and Counsel for Petitioners of the National Organization for Marriage, the plaintiff in the federal lawsuit; National Organization for Marriage, Inc. v. McKee. Mr. Eastman issued a statement of noncompliance with the U. S. Supreme Court ruling just days after the Court’s decision came down earlier this month. In it he says that NOM will still not disclose its donors in this year’s Question 1 election in Maine. NOM’s campaign report was due on October 5, 2012.”
“Mr. Eastman is a professor of law at Chapman University School of Law in Orange, CA. He served as Dean of the Law School from 2007 to 2010. He should know better.”
