Mother of Glen Doherty Slams Romney For Mentioning Slain Son In Speech

The mother of Glen Doherty, Barbara Doherty, has spoken out against Mitt Romney and his use of his brief meeting with her son in his campaign appearances. Doherty was a former Navy SEAL who was killed in Benghazi during an Al-Qaida attack on the US Consulate on 11 September 2012. Doherty was one of four killed that night.

Romney met Doherty at a Christmas party and said on the campaign trail that “I met some remarkable people, one of whom was a former navy seal. I just learned a few days ago that he was one of the two former navy seals killed in Benghazi. It broke my heart.”

Romney, and the Republicans in general, have been trying to use the Benghazi attack to damage Obama’s command on foreign policy.

Barbara Doherty stated
“I don’t trust Romney. He shouldn’t make my son’s death part of his political agenda. It’s wrong to use these brave young men, who wanted freedom for all, to degrade Obama.”

The Romney camp has said they will stop using Doherty’s name in the campaign apparances.
