Halloween began as the Celtic holy day of Samhain. In fact, it was a week long celebration that culminated with the day honoring the departed. Samhain ended with a feat for the departed. It was the turning of the year. The final harvest was in and the nights were growing longer and colder. The veil between the living and the dead was at its thinnest.
