The State Of The Marriage Race In Maine

Marriage Equality may be coming back to Maine in the near future. A recent poll found that support and opposition for the referendum legalizing same-sex marriage has changed little since June. Support for same-sex marriage currently stands at 57% while opposition is 36% and 7% are still undecided. This 21pt lead is larger than most polling being done on marriage equality, but all polling on the subject is showing that marriage equality is in the lead.

Maine could become the first state to pass same-sex marriage by popular vote.

Support for the marriage referendum is strongest among Democrats and Obama supporters. 81% of Democrats have said that they would vote for the referendum while 64% of Republicans say they oppose it. Obama supporters back marriage equality at 86%. Romney supporters oppose it with 75%.
