US Representative Jesse Jackson, Jr of Illinois has announced that he will be resigning from Congress. Jackson has already submitted his formal letter of resignation to Speaker John Boehner. The news came out via the Representative’s brother Jonathan.
Jackson will make a formal announcement from the floor of the House in the near future.
The resignation comes as Jackson is continuing negotiations regarding a plea bargain with the Feds concerning possible misuse of campaign contributions for personal use. Jackson is also being investigated with regards to possible knowledge of former Governor Rod Blagojevich’s attempt to ‘sell’, Obama’s former Senate seat.
Jackson recently won a ninth term in Congress despite being in treatment for bipolar disorder and not being able to campaign.
