A third and fourth man have come forward to claim that they had a sexual relationship with Kevin Clash, the puppeteer best known for being Elmo on Sesame Street. The sex scandal forced Clash not only into the open as a gay man, but forced him from Sesame Workshop. These latest two accusers have not been named.
According to the latest lawsuit filed against Clash, the puppeteer befriended the 16-year-old in 1995 when Clash was in his mid-thirties and the young man was 16. The young man lived in Miami, and Clash flew him from Florida to New York where the two had a sexual relationship. It should be noted that the age of consent in Florida is 18, and 17 in New York. Age of consent could colour this particular case greatly.
Jeff Herman, a well-known sex abuse lawyer, is representing three of the four accusers including the latest. Herman stated that “According to our lawsuit, Kevin Clash knowingly paid to transport a minor across state lines for the purpose of satisfying his sexual interests.”
So far, Clash and his people have denied the charges without going into specifics. He has admitted to having a relationship with at least one of the men, but claims that it started when the young man was over 18 and was consensual.
To date, none of the accusers have come forward to press charges against Clash despite the fact that he could be charged with statutory rape.
