An incident that came to light at the Vermont Statehouse has caught the attention of Chittenden County Prosecutor T.J. Donovan. An anonymous letter surfaced alleging sexual harassment by a Vermont National Guard member that was ignored by one of the candidates for Adjutant General of the Vermont National Guard.

Recently, Adjutant General of the Vermont National Guard Lieutenant General Michael Dubie was transferred to post of Deputy Commander of United States Northern Command. Retired Brigadier General John Farnham wanted to take over the job, which is currently being held on an interim basis by Major General Thomas Drew.

After the allegations surfaced that Farnham ignored the complaint, and the victim met with members of the committee overseeing the appointment of the new Adjutant General, Farnham withdrew his name from consideration. Farnham had been considered to be the top choice for the post. Representatative Helen Head, who heads up the committee to appoint the new Adjutant General, stated “I know him personally and I know it was not an easy decision for him to make and in some ways I regret that he felt he needed to make it because I know he’s well regarded by many members of the guard.”
