“Well, golllll-y!” Congratulations are in order to Jim Nabors and Stan Cadwallader. The couple, who are 82 and 64 respectively, have been together since 1974. The two married in Washington State and traveled there on 15 January to tie the knot. At the time the two met, Cadwallader was a firefighter in Honolulu.
Nabors said about the nuptials that “I’m 82 and he’s in his 60s and so we’ve been together for 38 years and I’m not ashamed of people knowing, it’s just that it was such a personal thing, I didn’t tell anybody. I’m very happy that I’ve had a partner of 38 years and I feel very blessed. And, what can I tell you, I’m just very happy.”
Nabors was open about being gay to his friends and coworkers, but never told the media because “I’m not a debater. And everybody has their own opinion about this and actually I’m not an activist, so I’ve never gotten involved in any of this.”
Nabors came to fame playing Gomer Pyle on The Andy Griffith Show back in 1963. In 1964, his character was granted a spinoff Gomer Pyle USMC. The spinoff lasted five years.
