Brenda Sue Fulton of the West Point class of 1980 has stepped down as the head of Knights Out. Former Army Captain Jonathan Hopkins has been named as her replacement. Fulton will be taking over the position of Communications Director.
Hopkins stated “I’m honored to lead this organization. We will strengthen our support of SPECTRUM, the Academy’s alliance of gay and straight cadets, and will continue to connect and support our LGBT grads with each other and with allies.”
Hopkins graduated #4 in his class, served as a platoon leader, operations officer, and company commander over three tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. For his ability he was awarded three Bronze Stars including one with a V for Valor, and was discharged from the military under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell for being gay.
Fulton stated “I am so proud to hand off leadership of this important organization to Jonathan. He is earned tremendous respect from the Pentagon and the White House, and will bring new energy and determination to support our Cadets and graduates as we work toward equal service for LGBT soldiers.”
Fulton will remain on the Board, and has also returned to her private sector job.
