“That’s so gay”. Apparently, that is the message from the studios with regards to “Behind the Candelabra”, the much anticipated biopic about Liberace. Well, actually the message appears to have been not so much “that’s so gay” as “that’s too gay.” All information, though is that Oscar-winning director Steven Soderbergh did not make the life story of Liberace into a gay porn flic, so there is some confusion as to why it was too gay.

Soderberg stated that “Nobody would make it. We went to everybody in town. They all said it was too gay.” The movie stars both Matt Damon and Michael Douglas. Soderbergh also sated “This is after ‘Brokeback Mountain,’ by the way, which is not as funny as this movie. The studios didn’t know how to sell it. They were scared.”

Douglas plays Liberace and Damon, his long time partner.

The film will now air directly on HBO.
