The manager of the 49ers might want to sit his team down and give them one great big harangue right about now. Even as the controversy over statements by Chris Culliver about gays on the team dies down a little bit, linebacker Ahmad Brooks and nose tackle Isaac Sopoaga have actually denied something big with regards to the LGBT Community- and that something was caught on film.
Apparently the two of them didn’t know that it was a video aimed at combating anti-LGBT bullying. Brooks told USA Today Sports that “This is America and if someone wants to be gay, they can be gay. But I didn’t make any video.” He was later shown the video and then stated “Oh, that. It was an anti-bullying video, not a gay [rights] video.”
It isn’t a gay rights video, or really a gay video. Bullying, even against straight teens, often includes anti-gay terminology in order to try and belittle and humiliate the teen.
Sopoaga, though, denied that he was even in the video even though he clearly is. He said “I never went, and now someone is using my name.”
It might be time someone clued these two men in.
