MUSIC REVIEW: Avenged Sevenfold “Nightmare”

Nightmare” is the 5th studio album by the band Avenged Sevenfold (A7X) and  it was released  on July 27th 2010 with Warner brothers records ( produced by Mike Elizondo and mixed up in New York City)

Avenged Sevenfold, in my opinion, is an amazingly talented band. I am really hoping they go on tour soon because I have yet to attend one of their shows, but I am just dying to experience that. There is such meaning and soul behind the feel to their music and soul biting lyrics! There is no denying those bad ass guitar riffs.

Smith’s artwork for Nightmare was considered one of “hard rock’s greatest album covers” for 2010 by Revolver.

During the recording of the album “Nightmare” the band had to go without James Sullivan (also known as “The Rev”, who performs on drums) due to his unfortunate death back in December of 2009. This is the first album since his  passing. However, he did contribute to the album before his death with some of the writings for the album and his vocals are still featured on the tracks.

“Night mare” is an album that will take you on a dark journey, but uplift your spirits at the same time. If you are a fan you will come to find the album has somewhat of a different feel as previous albums and is a little bit darker, but is worth listening to.

The first track, “Nightmare”, is by far my favorite song from the album of the same name. The thing about music and lyrics is they can mean different things to different people and those people can interpret their meanings in different ways. I feel this song has a lot of intensity to it.

Everybody has known that one person who just seemed “plain evil”. That type of person who only thinks about themselves and thinks there are no consequences for their actions and does fucked up shit to others. Some believe that Heaven and Hell are places that exist inside a person’s mind and this person is living the hell to their actions in their mind and has kind of going “crazy” finally experiencing every ounce of pain they put upon others in their mind to the full extent. While I know we all want to be that better person to still wish happiness upon somebody who has done you wrong, we all know there is a part of you that just “smiles like a watermelon” knowing that person is getting just what they deserve.  It’s a uplifting in a strange way to know somebody got their karma. A lot of the songs also have they feel to it !

Natural Born Killer, Welcome to the family, Danger Line and Fiction are more fast pace tracks and have that familiar A7X sound.

There are also a lot more ballad-type songs than on previous albums. Some of the songs have a very new and different feel to prior Avenged songs such as “Victim” and “Tonight the World Dies”.  Some of these songs are like a breath of a very different kind of air.

I wasn’t really sure how I felt about them at first, but after listening to them a few times they kind of grew on me. This is definitely an album that will unleash a different side to you.  It has kind of a “F*CK EVERYBODY” vibe to it.  But hey -sometimes angry and depressing music is the best way to put yourself in a better mood. Just free your inhibitions and rock the f*ck out!  .m/

Avenged Sevenfold (album)

There are always those people who hate on bands like “Avenged Sevenfold” slandering that they are not real metal or some other bullsh*t like that -but Music is music and I don’t feel that it should be categorized . I greatly enjoyed their self-titled album, which was realised in 2009, and their breakthrough album “City of Evil” which was released in 2005. I think “Nightmare” is a album worth listening to with an open mind. All music should be listened to with an open mind!

My advice; CHECK IT OUT! You may love it or you may hate it- but there is no wrong with giving music a chance!

great review i agree wholeheartedly with it, but just a side note (probably a typo) but their self-titled album came out in 2007, not 2009
