Fox News has kicked Dick Morris to the curb, only to see him picked up by CNN. Perhaps it really is time for one of the last bright lights of CNN to jump ship and see if she can wrangle a spot in MSNBC’s Prime Time lineup, especially after said bright light, Soledad O’Brien, demolished Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council on the issue of the Boy Scouts.
Rumors have speculated that O’Brien may be off the morning lineup at CNN.
In the interview, Perkins continuously tried to equate gays with pedophiles without actually saying that ‘all gays are pedophiles.’ Perkins opposes, along with many anti-gay groups and individuals, any move to allow gays to openly join the Boy Scouts of America.
When O’Brien asked why Perkins opposed removing the ban, he replied with “Why would I let a man who is attracted to other males go camping with my boys?” At that point, O’Brien tried to point out that “a pedophile, as you know… is someone who has sex with children.”
Perkins didn’t respond at that point, but later O’Brien asked “Are you saying that someone who’s gay is a pedophile, sir?” Perkins denied that saying “No, I never said that. They are trying to create an environment that is protective of children. This doesn’t make it more protective. There is a disproportionate number of male on boy — when we get into pedophilia… male on boy is a higher incident rate of that. We never said all homosexuals are pedophiles. That’s not what we’ve said.”
So, his rationale is that not all gay men are pedophiles, but because some gay men are pedophiles, all gay men should be kept away from children? By that rationale, all Catholic priests should be kept away from children since a small portion of them are pedophiles and have a history of sexually molesting both sexes. Also, by that rationale, children should not be allowed in schools because some, but not all, teachers of both sexes have sexually molested children. For that matter, since the vast majority of child molesters tend to be parents of children, all parents must surrender their children at birth because there is a risk that some of them might molest them.
At that point, all children should be dumped on an island in order to fight for survival because no adults can be allowed near them.
That is his rationale.
Perkins did try to ask why those who support lifting the ban do not just start their own organizations, but O’Brien shot that one down pretty quickly saying “Because they think it’s discriminatory, would be the answer I think they would give to that.”
