New Mexico’s HJR3 fell by only two votes despite passionate speeches from House Speaker Martinez, bill sponsor Brian Egolf, and Representative Nate Cote as well as 6,500 petitions in a stack almost four feet all. None the less, Democratic Representatives Mary Helen Garcia and Bebbie Rodella voted with the Republicans to kill the marriage equality bill.

Equality New Mexico is not planning to give up, however. They are planning to pressure the two ‘no’ votes as well as try to get some support from the Republican Party.
