Jenna Wolfe, the weekend anchor for “Today”, took the opportunity this morning to make two big announcements. First of all, she is expecting, and her fiancee is NBC News correspondent Stephanie Gosk. Oh, and she is lesbian. Ahead of her going on the show this morning she tweeted “Well, Here we go!!”
She then announced that “I’m pregnant, I’m quite pregnant” on the show. The baby is due later in the year. She also said “I know I’m not the first person to have a baby, but I am having a baby for the first time.” This announcement comes at the same time that she and Gosk have a spread in People magazine. She told People that “This is the most exciting thing that has ever happened to us, but I don’t want to bring my daughter into a world where I’m not comfortable telling everyone who I am and who her mother is.”
Wolfe and Gosk are planning to get married. She stated that “The beauty is that we live in a time where there’s no need for secrecy. This is a spectacular moment for us.” Singer Chely Wright, who is married to activist Lauren Blitzer, tweeted “Yay! Congratulations! Love-baby-family! Jenna and Steph: courage!”
The two make the announcement the day after the United States Supreme Court heard oral arguments regarding the Defense of Marriage Act or DOMA.
