Maybe in his next fight, Josh Thomson should be forced to fight while wearing a pink tutu. While that may not have much to do with anything that the Mixed Martial Arts fighter said on Facebook, it just seems kind of silly, which is what he is.
Thomson took to his Facebook page on 10 June to pose this question “Should you be allowed to marry whoever you want? Before you answer that, should u be allowed to have more than 1 wife?”
Well, my answer to that is, why not? So long as you, your wife and this third person all agree to it, all of you are involved in the decision, and you are all adults of sound mind, sure, why not let you three get married. Or heck, if you want, why not allow you to marry a woman and a man?
Apparently, things got heated and nasty after that point with Thomson being asked “Should you be allowed to decide what other sound-minded adults do with their lives?”
I’m only asking a question. My next question is, should siblings be allowed to marry siblings? My point is, where do you draw the line? I personally don’t care who you marry but I also am smart enough to know that it opens a gateway to men/women trying to marry young kids, siblings marrying eachother and people having multiple husbands an wives. You have to think all of these things are okay otherwise your stopping them from being happy as well which is hypocrisy. Equality doesn’t stop with gay marriage, it just starts with it.
Actually, despite claims that it “opens a gateway” to people marrying children and siblings marrying each other, it hasn’t. In fact, despite claims of being “smart enough to know that it” opens up these forms of marriage, there hasn’t been a vocal demand in Vermont for siblings to get married or to repeal the age of consent laws.
In fact, so far, in no state or nation where same-sex marriage is legal has anyone successfully campaigned for those forms of marriage. Why? Well, to start with, marriage between and adult and a child is almost never consensual, and that tends to be repellant to most people in the West. Typically, child marriages are performed against the will of the child. Even in cases where we have seen adults and teens engage in sexual relationships despite it being against the law, the assumption in this society- as backed by science- is that a child of between twelve and sixteen lacks the reasoning involved to adequately decide to engage in a sexual relationship.
As for incestuous relationships, almost every society has had some form of incest, but usually not between siblings. While the ancient Pharaohs of Egypt did engage in incest, it was usually between half-siblings rather than full siblings, and the reason why incest is frowned upon is almost automatically seen there.
While there are a couple of groups arguing for the legalization of sibling marriages and adult/child marriages, none of them have had any convincing arguments and they tend to have very small numbers of supporters.
However, it isn’t surprising that Thomson goes on trying to keep it sounding like he has an actual point and isn’t a homophobe:
Blacks an whites getting married is nothing like this. So your okay with R. Kelly trying To marry lil girls? People trying to marry their brother or sister? Animals? Etc? Those people want the same exact thing, to be happy. Are you gonna tell them no? Paul TChita your not arguing those points cuz you can’t. Look, I personally don’t give a shit who you marry but my question to you is, why is it okay for gays to marry and your gonna turn around and tell the guy he can’t marry the lil girl next door or the teacher she cant marry the lil boy in her class? Siblings, animals, etc. Why can’t they be happy like gay people an heterosexual people?
Oh, and I would love to see a cat sign a contract.
