On Saturday, 22 June, Equality House will have the honor of hosting their first wedding- that of Kimberly Kidwell and Katie Short of Little Rock, Arkansas. The two will get married on the front lawn, in full view of Westboro Baptist Church.
The ceremony will begin at 8pm.
There are already several businesses and groups in the greater Topeka area which have pledged support for the wedding including donating time, money and resources in order to make the ceremony happen.
The ceremony is all part of the mission of Equality House, which is to fight to end discrimination and injustice by emphasizing love and happiness, including that of Kimberly and Katie.
Equality House, in announcing the event, notes that we have, according to the polling, reached a tipping point in the United States where a majority of Americans support marriage equality; however, there is still a long way to go before that happens everywhere in the United States.
The US Supreme Court is set to rule on the Defense of Marriage Equality in the next week and a half. They are also set to rule on California’s Prop 8, but it is unclear if that is going to be a broad ruling taking down all bans on same-sex marriage or a narrow one just taking down Prop 8.
