WND Publishes An Apparent Defense Of Pedophilia

88px-Question_opening-closing.svgWorld Net Daily (WND) is at it again. They are spinning inaccurate information in order to try and attack LGBT-Americans by linking them to pedophiles. Of course, their prime source for this information is Linda Harvey of Mission America. According to Harvey, the push for LGBT rights is going to lead to pedophiles becoming more assertive about wanting their “sexual orientation” acknowledged.

Harvey wrote that “It’s all part of a plan to introduce sex to children at younger and younger ages to convince them that normal friendship is actually a sexual attraction.”

Now, WND notes that, back in 1973, homosexuality was delisted by the APA as a mental disorder, and “In 2003, a group of mental health professionals formed B4U-Act to begin a slow but inexorable push to redefine pedophilia as a sexual orientation in the same way homosexuality was in the 1970s.”

To start with, this group, which I hadn’t heard of before today, calls pedophiles “minor attracted people,” and says that their purpose is “help mental health professionals learn more about attraction to minors and to consider the effects of stereotyping, stigma, and fear.”

WND even goes on to say:

Van Gijseghem, psychologist and retired professor of the University of Montreal, told members of Parliament, “Pedophiles are not simply people who commit a small offense from time to time but rather are grappling with what is equivalent to a sexual orientation just like another individual may be grappling with heterosexuality or even homosexuality.”

He went on to say: “True pedophiles have an exclusive preference for children, which is the same as having a sexual orientation. You cannot change this person’s sexual orientation. He may, however, remain abstinent.”

When asked if he should be comparing pedophiles to homosexuals, Van Gijseghem replied: “If, for instance, you were living in a society where heterosexuality is proscribed or prohibited and you were told that you had to get therapy to change your sexual orientation, you would probably say that that is slightly crazy. In other words, you would not accept that at all. I use this analogy to say that, yes indeed, pedophiles do not change their sexual orientation.”

Now, yes, this may be true for a given value of true, but here is the catch. Children cannot knowingly consent to sexual acts with an adult. While it is quite alright to look at this from a pedophile’s perspective, the reality is that children do not understand.

WND goes on for about five pages trying to build a case that homosexuality and pedophilia are linked while, actually, building a case that pedophilia isn’t wrong and largely advocating for it. They never once point out that the difference between homosexuality and pedophilia is that homosexuality is about consensual same-sex sexual behaviors while pedophilia is about non-consensual acts of an adult perpetrated on a child.

Part of the problem with WND’s article is that they are trying to attack not only LGBT rights but Democrats for not specifically writing explicitly that the Matthew Shepard Act does not cover pedophiles, for instance, and for banning ex-gay therapy by claiming that it will ban attempts to help people struggling with pedophilic attractions. Unfortunately for WND, this is not the case as the way the laws are written it would take the APA delisting pedophilia as a psychological disorder for those laws to cover pedophilia.

Actually, what Jack Minor, the author of the article ends up doing is building a case that pedophilia is alright and not wrong. He cites a two-decade old study by the APA which claims that most adults are not harmed by child molestation without going into detail. He is so busy trying to justify pedophilia being normalized that he can’t manage to get into the nitty gritty. The reality is that most children probably don’t register or notice something like being groped a little, but if they are raped as opposed to groped, that tends to hurt them for a very, very long time.

There are degrees of child sexual abuse, but no one like Minor or WND is going to bother to note that. Instead, they have an agenda, but they seem to just fly right past it into justifying the opposite.

Minor claims that age of consent laws are under attack across the country despite the fact that I haven’t been able to find anyone who is doing that. In some locations, yes, there might be some talk of lowering the age of consent from, like, 18 to 16, but no one serious or with weight behind them seems to be advocating for the removal of the age of consent laws.

This is because, before the age of 12 or so, children are heavily traumatized by anything that violates them sexually. This usually has to do with the violation of trust that adults engender. After the age of 12, young teens are easily manipulated into sexual situation by an authority figure such as an adult.

In the end, I’m left baffled why Minor spent five pages appearing to advocate for the normalization of pedophilia.

The article was ok, but the conclusion of your last sentence is wrong, WRONG, Wrong!!!! I’m thinking that is not the conclusion you meant to make, and just miswrote the sentence. Please reread that last sentence and then rewrite it.

I pulled the last set of sentences. I was trying to convey something that unfortunately is going to take a lot more to explain than the short bit of space I really should have left.
