Pleased to meet you, Michael Voris, have you guessed my name?
Voris is the force behind Church Militant TV, and in his latest offering, Voris talks about Saltillo Bishop Jose Raul Vera Lopez. Recently, Bishop Lopez said in an interview that homosexuality is not wrong, and not evil.
During the interview, Bishop Vera states:
One mother came to me and said that she was being watchful of her son because he was hanging out with “those degenerate gays” and I said “so blame yourself for it because that’s the way your son developed in your womb and he didn’t develop into a degenerate or a perverse person. He was born with a certain constitution you are trying to ignore. Calm down, you are the mother of that child and he began to be who he now is inside your womb. So the first one I’d kick out would be you because you are the perverse one who is first in line.” That’s what I said.
In taking on Bishop Vera, Voris latches on to the claim made by Vera that homosexuality is innate to the person and immutable. Of course, Voris disputes this, but he would. Voris states “Where does he get his rotten assertion from. Science has not only answered this question, but answered it definitively.”
He goes on to claim that “There is no so-called gay gene! And militant gays in the sciences searched for one for a long time and produced all kinds of bogus propaganda reports about twins and other things to try and back it up. In the end, it all fell on its face. NO GAY GENE!”
Voris is on shaky ground here. He is, facially, correct. There is no gay gene. In fact, what scientists have found is that there are numerous genes which impact and influence our sexuality and sexual orientation.
Voris goes on to say that “Likewise, his claim that something happens to hormones in the womb is beyond speculative and certainly shouldn’t be touted by a bishop to excuse immoral behavior. EVEN if something happens in the womb, and there is no way to know that, but for the sake of argument, say it does – how does a bishop, a successor of the Apostles make the leap from – happened on the womb, to therefore moral.”
You will note that Voris does not even try to refute the issue of uterine hormonal interference in sexuality. He goes right to “if”, well, we actually can find out what happens in the uterus, and there is a very strong correlation between hormone levels in the uterus and sexual orientation.
As for what is moral, Bishop Vera is correct. The Bible says nothing about homosexuality. In fact, it says nothing about marriage being between a man and a woman either. The portions of the Bible that seem to deal with homosexuality actually deal with a single sexual act- anal intercourse. It should be noted that such an act was considered illegal in most of the Greek city-states as well, and they tended to look favorably on men having sexual bonds with men.
Of course, Voris makes the leap from homosexuality to alcoholism, just like everyone who has nothing more than a religious argument to make. He claims that “There is much much evidence that there is something genetic related to alcoholism, and study after study suggests this greatly affects people from Northern European backgrounds.”
And then wonders “So – does Bishop Vera think that if people born with an inherited disposition to alcoholism can just go get plastered whenever they feel like it? Destroy their families, lose their standing, crash their careers, end up on skid row?”
Part of Voris’ problem is that he see gays as being like Dr. Frank ‘n’ Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. That is, gays all engage in bad sexual behaviors and are addicted to sex. Indeed, his image of gays is this:
Of course, Voris is not happy at being told to go back and read the Bible to find out what it says. He claims “that’s a slap in the face, an insult to all you stupid Catholics out there who aren’t smart enough and educated enough to understand the nuance of scripture. And – WHY should you. After all, you suffer from a mental illness of homophobia.”
Actually, you should go back and read it. It’s a fascinating read, but most people never actually read it because they are told what to believe by their priests and bishops.
Of course, Voris adds at the end that “The link we’ve attached the whole article to is from a militant homosexual website. We wanted to show you how much the world of the diabolical seizes on it, whenever a bishop falls. They are ecstatic over this Judas.”
Awww…thank you. Indeed, the article that is mentioned would happen to be from LezGetReal.
Voris goes on to say that “And just as happened at the Last Supper, Satan entered into heart and he went out into the night. And as St. John tells us .. And it was dark. Pray for Bishop Vera and all the other bishops who have sat back barely uttering a peep about this grave evil as it has swamped the Church and the culture.”
They say that the Devil can cite scripture for his purpose, but as I prefer to quote The Rolling Stones “Please allow me to introduce myself/I’m a woman of wealth and taste/I’ve been around for a long, long year/Stole many a man’s soul and faith”, at least according to Mr. Vorbis there.
