During the interview, he was asked about his role as a gay father in Mothers and Sons. To which he said “I think it’s a gay actor’s responsibility to give full-blooded life to gay characters.”
The thirty-two year old actor is mostly known for starring in coming-of-age stories. According to reporters “ He played a conflicted gay soldier in the Off-Broadway World War II musical Yank! and earned a Tony nom for his performance in the 2009 revival of McNally’s Ragtime.:
Steggert described the role in Big Fish as “Now I’m playing men dealing with adult issues.”
Big Fish is making its way to Broadway from Chicago. The original place is apparently once of the most anticipated musicals to appear in this season.
Steggert joins a long list of actors who have come out of the closet in quiet little ways instead of making huge announcements about it.
