Editors say Qadita.net will be the first Arabic website to include a section on gay and lesbian writing, including reviews of Arab gay-oriented cinema and literature.

Two prominent Israeli-Arab literary figures yesterday launched www.Qadita.net, an Arabic-language politics and culture website they say will tackle issues widely considered taboo in the Arabic press, according to Israeli news HAARETZ.

The site’s editors are author Ala Hlehel and Anton Shalhat, a journalist and culture critic.

Hlehel said quality will be the sole determining factor for featuring items on the site. “We’ll post controversial texts that touch on social and cultural sensitivities,” he said. “The margins of freedom of the press in Arabic are shrinking under political and social tension from the whole Arab-Islamic scene, with its suffocating effect on free creation.”

Hlehel said yesterday that the site is aimed at “restoring the written word as the center of content in Arabic discourse and returning cultural texts as the focus of the Arab literary, cultural, political and societal experience.”

This will be the first Arabic website to include a section on gay and lesbian writing, he said.

“That section will be featured prominently on the home page,” he said. “It will include texts written by Arab gays and lesbians who, naturally, will publish anonymously.” He said the section would include reviews of gay-oriented cinema and literature in the Arab world and beyond.

By now you have all heard the tale of the homophobic offensive guard for the Philedelphia Eagles, Todd Herremans, who tweeted some anti-gay statements regarding the popular HBO show, True Blood. Specifically, he said: “Not a fan of how they get u hooked with the 1st 2 seasons then bring on a barrage of homosexuality.” Those damn vampires and their gayness! It’s so much worse than the whole “living on blood” thing. Am I right or am I right? … Or am I right?

Anyway, so the online queer community called Herremans out on his BS and he apologized. But Jason Zinoman, a writer over at www.Slate.com wrote an article today entitled, “True Blood’s “Barrage of Homosexuality” with the subtitle, “Was the Philadelphia Eagles’ Todd Herremans on to something?” Say what, dude? No way was Herreman onto something. Zinoman goes on to lavish us with his insights, which include that True Blood is trying to insight a gay panic riot in their straight male viewership. Because straight men are scared of the gays! Beware of the gays bro. Gays are cool as long as they don’t hit on me, right, dude? Zinoman writes:

The writers clearly enjoy making their audience feel uncomfortable. The excess of gore and the violent sex are designed to shock. They haven’t recently introduced homosexuality, as Herremans would have it, although you could make the case that there has been something of a barrage lately. And this season, the show’s fluid sexuality has a pointed dramatic purpose that invites and even encourages this kind of gay panic.

Maybe the show wants to make people uncomfortable, but it also wants to turn them on. There is a lot of sex in True Blood, hot sex, gay sex, lesbian sex, non-consensual sex, rough sex, etc. People like sex. People like sex and violence. I’m pretty sure HBO isn’t trying to gross out the bros, bro. Zinoman has a theory about how True Blood creates this homosexual panic. First, they get their straight male audience to get cool with a male character. There are tits involved, the straight male is like, dude maybe this vamp is coolio. Then BAM that cool vampire becomes a GAY vampire. But it’s too late because the dude bro has made a connection with the character and seeing this character have ‘the man sex’ freaks him out.

Last week, what bothered Herremans was surely the sex between Talbot and Eric. Straight male audiences surely identified with the confident alpha dog Eric, perpetually surrounded by adoring topless strippers. It was a shock to hear him explain that, when he said it’s been a long time since he’s “done this,” he was referring to vampires, not men.

DON”T YOU SEE HOW HBO IS MANIPULATING YOU, DUDE BROS! Zinoman writes:

True Blood performs a similar trick by getting straight male audiences invested in scenes of gay sexuality. Herremans’s tweet shows that it worked.

Wow. Sooo, True Blood showing the gay sex to freak out dude bro’s everywhere, instead of creating and telling a unique, compelling story that gets millions of viewers to tune in every week. Who knew?

Am I being too hard on dude bro Zinoman’s entry? Maybe. Recently, Slate has become kind of a weird place with feminist bloggers (and my personal favs) such as Hanna Rosin defending a Cornell scientist who used vibrators on young female children as well as a Cornell report that said partial female circumcision was okay, defending the doctor who gave out “anti-lesbian” pills to women pregnant with female children and attacking Jezebel.com. I used to love Slate, but what the hell is in their water coolers lately?

Perez Hilton and his mother,Teresita made their second video together, talking about the Prop 8 decision. Teresita is pro-marriage equality. This is refreshing, it is good to see a Latina supporting marriage equality.In the media, Latinos are often portrayed as narrow minded and opposed to LGBT rights, when in reality there are people on both sides of the issue, just as there are in other ethnic and cultural groups.

Do you think Teresita is pro-gay because her son became arguably one of the most successful, powerful gay men in the media? Teresita says that whether or not her son was gay, she would be for marriage equality. She says that with age comes wisdom and as she has gotten older she has realized that marriage equality is the way to go. She is also pro-LGBT adoption rights. They close the video with an invocation to the Supreme Court to have an open mind, should the Prop 8 case make it that far, then they high five. Watch the vid below:

Former Alaskan Governor for half a term, Sarah Palin is letting us all know, over twitter, what she would have done if she were President instead of him. She would have gone to the US-Mexican border, in face she is going there soon. Because the border is porous, like the sponges that the hockey moms use to wash their dishes of American love and pride and that’s not a good thing.

“Anyone But Me” is a popular LGBT youth oriented webseries. The series has won numerous awards for it’s portrayal of New York City lesbian teen Vivian McMillian (Rachel Hip-Flores) and her struggle with her sexuality and navigating the already tricky high school social scene. The series has received accolades not only for their portrayal of LGBT teens and straight allies, but also for their complex exploration of racial dynamics in high school. Despite the heavy subject matter, the series is also at times humorous and always engaging. The good news? They are hosting a webathon!

The Web-A-Thon will run in a three part series airing July 27th through 29th online at 4:00 PM EST. It will be hosted by entertainment reporter Lisa Bernhard, the Thon will feature guest appearances by your favorite ABM actors. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Ali Forney Center, the largest agency dedicated to providing housing and services to homeless LGBT youth in NYC. The rest will go to support the show and keep it in production. This series promotes acceptance of LGBT youth in a medium that is appealing to teens across the country. Given the recent controversy where teen Constance McMillen was kept from attending her school prom because she was a lesbian, this series is really more important than ever.

Brandy Alexander, aka sexidance, is vying for most vile online personality! In a desperate bid for attention, this little lesbian hater decided to tweet @samantharonson.

when is @samantharonson gonna get hate crimed?she’s the type of lesbians that are giving america cancer.

Great grammar, “sexidance.” Samantha fired back with:

no, that’s cigarettes RT @sexidance when is @samantharonson gonna get hate crimed?she’s the type of lesbians that are giving america cancer.

Ronson then blocked “sexidance” (who is undoubtedly an ugly sack of crap) and sexidance capitalized on the attention by complaining about lesbians who are in dire need of penis and calls gay men the f word! Obviously, she will be marching at NYC Pride next year.

In June, Harris conducted a poll of 2,412 adults, ages 18 and over, of whom 341 self-identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual and/or transgender (271 as either gay or lesbian), Harris said. The firm said it over-sampled gay men and lesbians in order to allow for more detailed analysis of the groups.

The poll found that the LGBT groups seemed to be on par with heterosexual respondents a year ago. But in the time between May 2009 and June 2010, the number of LGBTs participating socially online jumped significantly in a few areas.

In 2009, for example, the number of gays and lesbians who said they used Twitter was 20 percent, versus 12 percent for heterosexuals. In 2010, that number of gays and lesbians using Twitter had jumped to 29 percent, versus 15 percent for straights.

Likewise, the number of gays and lesbians who said in 2009 that they checked social-networking sites once per week was 65 percent, versus 66 percent. A year later, that percentage climbed to 81 percent versus 71 percent. But 17 percent of straight respondents also said that they checked the social sites at least monthly, versus 11 percent of gays and lesbians.

Gays, lesbians, and straights preferred the same social-networking sites in the same order of preference, with Facebook then MySpace, LinkedIn, and Plaxo preferred by users. Gay and lesbian users clustered within Facebook and MySpace, with 55 percent and 43 percent claiming to be members of each. Forty-six percent of the straights Harris polled claimed to be members of Facebook, versus 30 percent that used MySpace.

In March 2008, Harris noted a quick jump in the number of gays and lesbians reading blogs versus straight respondents: 51 percent to 36 percent, versus 32 percent to 26 percent in Nov. 2006. By June, that gap had slightly closed, with 54 percent of gays and lesbians stating that they read blogs, versus 40 percent of straight users.

Gay Icon Cyndi Lauper is getting her own reality t.v. show! 

NYDN reports that Lauper is getting her own reality show: “Now that she’s been bitten by the reality-show bug, she’s moving on to another project: her own reality program with ‘Survivor’ czar Mark Burnett. It will be about what Lauper calls ‘the comedy of our lives’ — meaning life on the upper West Side with her husband of 19 years, actor David Thornton, and their 12-year-old son, Declyn.”

Sooo exciting! I would watch. Cyndi was also on the Joy Behar Show and talked about Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga. She defends the young stars, their edgy looks and their sexuality. Would you expect anything else from her? Watch the clip below:

Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels took to Twitter and FaceBook last night to answer fans questions about weight loss and her new show, ‘Losing it With Jillian.’ Not surprisingly, none of the questions accepted were about her tightly guarded personal life (although if sources in WeHo are to be believed, she and her girlfriend are huge fans of She Bar) but she did answer a lot of helpful weightloss questions. They are below, enjoy!   

What do Losing It families eat: I basically put them the Master Your Metabolism diet. Then I set the women’s calories at 1200 intake & men’s cal intake at 1600 daily. I have the guys burning 4,500 cals a day and the women burning 3,500 cals a day.

Emotional eating: Create coping mechanisms & recovery behaviors that are life affirming, not self destructive. Instead of binging join a support group, call a friend, get a massage or do something that makes you feel beautiful like a mani / pedi. Go workout. Exercise boosts your mood & put you back in the power seat. &… remove crap food from your house. No matter how bad you feel you can’t eat what isn’t there.

How do you exercise w an injury: Talk to your Dr. first, but you can work around any issue. For lower body issues try swimming, biking, elliptical, boxing. For upper body issues try jogging, stairs, biking. Start slow & build up. There are NO excuses.

Eating healthy on a budget: Try growing your own. Buying in bulk or frozen. Buy only in season. Clip coupons. Join a co-op. Do grocery shopping at online store (cheaper cause store has no store front overhead). Shop at Farmers Markets. Buy thick skin fruits & veg to avoid cost of organics. Eat less meat & do more bean & grain based meals.

How do you help people that won’t change: You can ask them leading questions about what they want. Try to get them to make the choice on their own by drawing their deeper desires out of them. However, if they still don’t respond tell them how much you love them, how you worry about them. How you will be there to help w…hen they are ready. Then focus on yourself. Often, eventually they will follow your example.

How do you stay motivated: First thing to identify is WHY you want to be motivated. What is it that you want to change and achieve. This is the thing that will help you stay the course. Write down ALL the reasons you want change in your life & make all your decisions w those goals in mind. Nothing tastes as good as living healthily & happily feels.

Hardest thing to deal with when I move in: Not being on my turf or in my comfort zone. It makes it hard to come from a position of power when you are staying in someones home. Very awkward and uncomfortable at first. I feel like an imposition – but after about the 3rd day it turns around & I make myself right at home. Literally.

What support from show does family have when I leave: I stay in touch with them along with my RD and MD. We also have a special producer assigned to the families named Kat who makes sure they are doing ok & feeling supported.

Belly Fat: Can NOT be spot reduced. This is about reducing overall body fat. Try counting cals, cutting processed foods, sleep 8 hours, reduce sodium to 1500 mg a day, up water intake to reduce bloat, hit gym hard with core based training like MMA, Power Yoga, Kettlebells.

Lots of questions about what’s in my cabinets: Let’s start with what ISN’T. No processed fake foods. No hydrogenated oils, HFC, MSG, Artificial Sweeteners. Have whole grains (beans, oatmeal, WG bread & pasta, nuts, fruits, veggies, lean proteins (tuna, eggs, yogurt).

 Getting lots of questions about weight loss plateaus: Usually it’s a result of losing track of your calorie intake. Start journaling again & be sure to have at least a 500 cal a day deficit. If that isn’t the issue it could be you are eating too little. Try upping your calories by 10% & take 2 days off to let the body rest.

According to the press release, Vampire Mob “follows Don Grigioni, a hitman and vampire, who just found out his mother-in-law is moving in, for eternity.   Don became a vampire because ‘it was a good fit’ for is nocturnal life of crime.   He never planned on biting his wife, Annie, and making her immortal, ‘but then I got hungry.’   Annie felt bad that her mom would die one day and bit her, never discussing it with Don, and now mom needs a place to stay and blood to drink.   With Don’s hit business slowing down, the last thing he needs is more ‘grocery shopping’ to do.”

Don Grigioni is played by character actor John Colella who has been seen on shows such as CSI: New York, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and The West Wing.  Reamy Hall will be playing Annie Grigioni, Don’s wife.  According to the press release “Marcia Wallace, the voice of Mrs. Krabappel on The Simpsons is the mother-in-law, Virginia Jones, and her daughter, Laura is played by Kirsten Vangsness, known for her role as Penelope Garcia on Criminal Minds.“

The series is the brain child of Joe Wilson, not Joe “You Lie” Wilson of South Carolina.   Wilson is also the writer, director and editor.  John Vargas is the assistant director, and Wilson and Colella are the producers.

There will be an passworded online premier for the show on 27 June, and a premier on the same day attended by several of the starts including Vangsness.  There will be six episodes in the first season released as each episode reaches a set count of views.

MediaTakeout.com, the world’s most popular urban website, is calling into question R&B singer Ciara’s gender. They have a picture of her where her Adam’s apple looks particularly pronounced. You can see the picture HERE; it’s probably just because she happens to be swallowing something. Contrary to popular belief, women have Adam’s apples, most women don’t have a pronounced Adam’s apple but some do, particularly very skinny women.

Ciara has experienced rumors about her gender since before Lady Gaga made potentially having a penis popular. First the rumors were that she was MTF trans and then later that she was a hermaphrodite. She added fuel to the fire with her song “Like a boy”(which is much better than Beyonce’s rip off ‘If I were a boy’) where she dressed like a boy and dances around singing about what it’s like to be a guy. She looks butchtastic while doing it too. There were also some lesbian rumors about her, but those never really materialized.

Basically, Ciara is a woman and sadly, probably straight so no controversy here. I liked her music a lot though and wish she would drop some new beats.

Miley Cyrus  appeared today in the Court of Public opinion on charges of Lap Dancing at age 16; the twits are twittering, and the video event is fast going viral, within hours of the breaking news.  But You Tube keeps taking it down.

Reluctantly viewing the video, I came to the conclusion that this was indeed NO lap dance.  I always understood a lap dance to be when the subjects include the “provocator” standing and seducing a seated “provocatee,”  with grinds and boobs and pelvis – you know what I mean.

In the video I saw, they are literally on a dance floor, with Miley gyrating rear locked for a moment into her 40 year old producer’s gyrating front.  They are standing and dancing standing upright.  Yes it is provocative; yes she was only 16;  yes it was a wrap private party; and the biggest yes of all is the simple fact that every single kewl teenager of that age does just that at any given dance party.  It is the rage!

What Miley probably did not get is the high eyebrow atthe fact that dancing in that way with a 40 year old is the ‘not business as usual.’  But then look at her world- Hollywood kewl may well be different from School kewl.

The Video keeps getting deleted off you Tube. The version I saw was on Rick Sanchez, CNN.

Enough now twits lets leave it alone…. it is between the kid, her daddy and DISNEY!

Former porn star Jenna Jameson was allegedly assaulted by her husband, Tito Ortiz. To recap why this is news on LGR, Jameson used to be an outspoken bisexual. She claimed she had slept with at least four women for every man she slept with, enjoyed women more and her friends thought she was really just a lesbian. She has since recanted all of those statements, but there is still a special place in my heart for Jenna for her initial courage for admitting that.

According to TMZ Tito Ortiz was arrested on felony domestic violence charges today for allegedly beating Jenna Jameson at the home they live in with their 13-month-old twin boys yesterday. Police responded around 10 a.m. to a 911 call about a “disturbance,” and officers say Jenna had “visible injuries” when they arrived. Jenna Jameson’s dad made the 911 call. As he and Jenna left the house, she said, “I’m gonna be alright. My babies are alright … everything’s OK .. he’s in jail.” Jenna also Tweeted: “I cant take any more abuse from ANYONE. To my sweet fans…thank you.” [TMZ] Jenna Jameson went to CVS and came out with a medical brace on her right arm. She told the paparazzi she’ll be pressing charges but that she still wants to work things out “for the kids sake.”

Tito’s side of the story is that Jenna Jameson is addicted to Oxycontin, and blames her drug use for the incident they had yesterday. Tito’s lawyer claims Tito “never laid a hand on Jenna.” Tito maintains that he was only trying to help her, because she had a relapse, and confronted her about the drugs he claims to have found. Tito says his parents went through addiction, and he’s “seeing a mirror of that.” Tito told reporters at a press conference: “I hold everything dear to my heart that Jenna will be OK.”

Kim often barked at Tracy in front of everyone, “God made you for me, girl!”

We’d hear Kim often say “Tracy is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen; from her head to her toes. I want to marry her!”

Kim’s pet name for Tracy was “Little Baby Girl.” Ad nauseam, Kim would brag about the great sex, “Tracy licks my box perfectly. It’s not finger lickin’ good. It’s box lickin’ good!

I witnessed Kim constantly calling and Tweeting Tracy obsessively. She was so over-jealous, always wanted to make sure Tracy was where she said she would be and not with her ex-girlfriend or another woman.

The downfall of their relationship was that Kim would not come out of the closet in fear of being cut off financially from Big Poppa. She became enraged that Tracy would not keep their relationship quiet.

It all came to a head when Kim refused to walk the red carpet with Tracy at our birthday party and it left the DJ broken-hearted.

Breaking news…Susan Powter hates fat girls. Which is surprising given her current relationship with everyone’s favorite plus sized comedian, Jessica Kirson.  Powter has even gone on the record as saying that she doesn’t project her fitness happy lifestyle onto her partner, she just let’s her make her own choices.

In case you don’t know who Susan Powter is, she had a tv show for one season in 1994, based on health and wellness. In 2007, she starting blogging about fitness and wellness online. Her website consists of recipes, poems, fitness tips and home movies. Powter recently went on a tirade against Oscar winner Gabourey Sidibe, in a lovely titled movie called, “Fuck the Right to Fat Girls.” Watch the hatefest below:

The video tears into Gaby for being overweight. Susan says that being overweight will kill Gaby’s career and that Gaby is also doing herself a disservice for being fat and that 85% of diseases come from being overweight. She also endorses the hateful names Howard Stern called Gaby.

First of all, as a lesbian, I cannot stand another lesbian endorsing Howard Stern’s dismissal of Gaby. Howard Stern is basically saying that if a woman is not attractive, she has no worth in our society. These sentiments are constantly echoed in the media. It’s not good for woman to have to torture themselves to fit such a ridiculous mold. I reject it. I may not be the hottest girl in the room, but I have something to say and I know how to say it. I have more to offer the world than beauty and so does every woman out there, even if she doesn’t know it. Ps. Susan, you’re fugly. Pug fugly, so you aren’t worth anything to Howard Stern either. He would slam your self-proclaimed “radical lesbian” ass to the curb.

Second of all, 85%? You can’t make up a figure and say it’s fact. Should Gaby lose a few pounds for health reasons? Probably. But that’s really no reason to hate anyone. Much less to “fuck” their rights as women of size.

Susan also mentions a time where she was“260 pounds, nothing looked good nothing felt good. “ Project your insecurities much, Susan? Gaby looked beautiful in her Oscar dress. And you know what makes her even more attractive? Her sense of humor and her amazing talent as an actress.  

Is being fat going to hinder Gaby’s career? Yes. It will make it much harder for her. If she had Kate Hudson’s body, she would be much more likely to be offered the kind of humorous roles that she deserves. But being African-American makes it harder too. Tasha Smith (Why Did I Get Married) is one of the funniest actresses in Hollywood, her body is tight and her humor is awesome. Will she ever achieve the type of fame that Katherine Heigl has? Nope and she is a hell of a lot funnier. Is Susan advocating Gaby pulling a Michael Jackson (too soon?) and dying her skin white? Being a lesbian makes it much harder to gain celebrity too, should Susan become straight? But Susan was really big in the 90s right? Oh right, that was because she was passing. She pretended to be straight, or at least, didn’t tell anyone she was a lesbian while she was still a relevant figure. That’s no way to live life. I would rather be fat than in the closet.

In a daring move by Microsoft, Xbox 360 players will now be able to utilize gamertags Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Bi and Straight in their profiles. Xbox Live boss, Marc Whitten announced on the official site:

“I’d like to announce an update to the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use and Code of Conduct which will allow our members to more freely express their race, nationality, religion and sexual orientation in Gamertags and profiles. Under our previous policy, some of these expressions of self-identification were not allowed in Gamertags or profiles to prevent the use of these terms as insults or slurs. However we have since heard feedback from our customers that while the spirit of this approach was genuine, it inadvertently excluded a part of our Xbox LIVE community.”

This was a very sensitive subject for Microsoft, who wanted to allow gamers to express their relationship orientation in a way that wouldn’t make anyone (gay or straight) uncomfortable. Microsoft collaborated with GLAAD and with their internal network of LGBT employees to ensure that the new system would be acceptable for all parties.  

Another Xbox Live policy boss, Stephen Toulouse, announced the change via his twitter account:

“Expression of relationship orientation ok in Gamertags and Profiles on Xbox LIVE. Special thanks to GLAAD and Microsoft’s LGBT community for guidance on the terms.”

There have been some gamers that have expressed discontent with this change, stating that they just want to game and not know about sexual orientation or that gay is often used as an insult online and that’s the only place for this word in gaming. This is blatantly untrue. While it is true that some gamers only form superficial ties to the online gaming community, for many players, the game is an extention of their social circle. Despite the negative commenters, this is an exciting day for LGBT gamers who are looking to connect with other members of their community online.

Now, all publicly accessible information capabilities and application available across the Internet in locations not owned, operated, or controlled by the Department of Defense are considered by the military to be integral to operations. This means all you military Facebookers, Twitter tweeters, YouTubers and blog readers can now access these services from non-classified government computers, as long as that access doesn’t compromise operational security or involve prohibited activities or Web sites.

While saying the new policy recognizes the importance of protecting military networks and operations, Deputy Assistant Secretary Of Defense For Information Management And Technology David M. Wennergren, explained, “The world of Web 2.0 and the Internet provides these amazing opportunities to collaborate, ” and said the new policy will promote what Wennergren calls “secure information sharing,” providing the balance needed to tap into the capabilities social media networking provides without compromising security.

Deputy Defense Secretary William J. Lynn III, who signed the policy, said it strikes a critical balance between the benefits and potential vulnerabilities of these applications. “This directive recognizes the importance of balancing appropriate security measures while maximizing the capabilities afforded by 21st-century Internet tools,” said Lynn.

Last June, Defense Secretary Robert Gates acknowledged that the DoD was way behind the rest of the world in using social media, “This department, I think, is way behind the power curve in this; it’s an area where I think we have a lot of room for improvement,” said Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates, speaking to reporters at a Pentagon news conference.

“For leaders, it’s really important to be connected to [social-networking tools] and understand it,” said Navy Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, noting that he has his own Facebook page. “I think communicating that way and moving information around that way — whether it’s administrative information or information in warfare — is absolutely critical.”

That’s not to say the DoD has been totally social media illiterate up till now. The DoD has at least 46 YouTube channels, 91 Twitter feeds, 35 Flickr streams, 46 blogs, and 106 Facebook pages.

However, the military has, until now, had a rocky relationship with social media, the Marines completely banned access to all public social networking sites in 2007, while the Army allowed access to only handful and then only to troops stationed in Stateside Bases and with this new policy, all those restrictions are now lifted.

That also means, that since Lez Get Real.com is not to the DoD’s list of contraband sites thus far, all you soldiers, sailors, marines and air people out there in the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell underground can now read LGR from your work computer.

Perez Hilton, the celebrity blogger, constantly contradicts himself. He claims that he is doing everything he can to support the LGBT community. But you can find him forcibly outing gay celebrities and calling straight cheesy rappers (Sorry Will.i.am) fags. You can also find him on the cover of gay mags, the Advocate and Out.

In his latest thoughtless move, Hilton has chosen to hate on Ellen DeGeneres. The post starts with a picture of Ellen and Portia, Portia is wearing a dress so he has a “greater than” sign pointing to the dress. Because femme lesbians are cuter than butch ones? Great message to send to his extensive readership. Dresses on lesbians aren’t better than suits on lesbians. Women can rock a butch look still look hotter than a straight woman in a dress and heels. Hilton then calls Ellen a diva for asking for a 150,000 dollar wardrobe budget, despite the fact that Paula Abdul probably had a larger one. He then tells her that it’s ok if Abdul gets a larger wardrobe budget, because women who wear dresses and skirts need more money than women who wear pantsuits. This is ridiculous. I don’t know why Hilton feels the need to hate on women who don’t like to wear dresses, but despite his self proclaimed “gay activism” he has chosen this route.

Hilton also adds a qualifer to the statement, as if that would make it ok. “Not to belittle your style…” It’s too late Perez, you have already belittled her style and the style of every woman (gay or straight) who chooses not to wear dresses. Ellen looks great. She is a hot sexy butch woman and I’m sure that Portia De Rossi would give you an earful for suggesting that she is “greater than” Ellen because she wears the dress in the relationship. Straight men and women read your blog and if you send the message that all women, gay or straight, need to dress like femme barbies, they will listen to you and follow your example. Grow up buddy. Decide if you are a LGBT activist or not.

Actually, funny gal Ellen DeGeneres is the one making herself right at home at the Idol stage and has started making outrageous demands. Sources on American Idol suggest that Ellen has insisted that she get a $150,00 clothing allowance for custom-made clothing while she is on the show.

But will the Idol bosses foot that bill?

The sources says she won’t be taking no for an answer: “Ellen feels it’s only fair because Paula received a hefty allowance for hair, makeup and wardrobe.”

Yes, but Paula wore more than just a pant suit every week. Not to belittle your style, girl, but this seems a little extreme

In June of 2009 Liborio Molina, the tour manager of the Black Eyed Peas punched celebrity blogger Perez Hilton in the face outside an LA nightclub. Hilton admitted to calling Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am a faggot. Molina has personally apologized to Hilton for the punch and Hilton has apologized to the LGBT community for the use of the slur. Which was surprising at the time, and still is, considering that Hilton is out and frequently outs closeted celebrities in the name of gay visibility. Today, a judge is dismissed a civil lawsuit filed against Molina by Hilton.

Attorneys for Hilton and Peas’ manager Liborio Molina announced in court Tuesday they had reached a settlement agreement without the courts involvement. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge John S. Wiley agreed to dismiss the case but retained jurisdiction in case the settlement doesn’t go as planned.

The terms of the settlement have not been made public and neither attorney has commented.

“Some of the hosting service providers even told us that gay chatting was illegal,” said Geng Le, the Webmaster of a gay website in Beijing.”

According to Geng, some site owners have been forced to host their websites on foreign servers.

Another Webmaster who goes by the on line name of Chen, said his website in Beijing was closed by his web hosting company, after that company told him gay websites might hold immoral information and pornographic literature.

“I would bet that most gay websites are more ‘clean and healthy’ than websites not closed by the government,” he said.

“As a gay Webmaster, we are more careful about all the information on the website, because we want to remove the prejudice on the gay group. We want to let them know we are healthy.”

According to an article last week in the China Daily, The Chinese Association of HIV/AIDS NGOs, made the statement on Wednesday confirming that gay websites in China have been recently forced to close or had their accounts deleted by their server hosting companies and that it would provide free legal aid to those webmasters …

“More than 20 lawyers in our institute can provide legal aid to those webmasters for free. If the case does not happen in Beijing, we can transfer it to other NGOs,” said Lan Yujiao, an official in Aizhixing Institute, an NGO for protecting the legal rights of special groups in Beijing…. via China Daily.

While the number of gays in China remains unclear, statistics from China’s Ministry of Health in 2004 showed the total number of gay men in China is estimated between 5 and 10 million. However an official statistic, quoted in a news report in the China Daily article, put the figure for the People Republic of China at “approximately 30 million.”

Although the Communist Government repealed the laws against homosexuality or same-sex acts between consenting adults in 1997, there are also no laws in China protecting LGBT’s from discrimination.

It is widely assumed that the official Chinese Government policy towards gay rights issues remains the “Three nos”: no approval, no disapproval, and no promotion and gay in China still undergo prejudice from the justice system and harassment from police, including detention and arrest.

The government in China has also banned many public media items related to gay topics, and denied release of Western films like Brokeback Mountain, considering them to be “going against the healthy way of life in China”.

China is also experiencing a soaring rate of HIV and AIDS infections among all segments of its population, for which many in the government are try to lay the blame on China’s Gay Community. Hao Yang, deputy director of China’s disease prevention and control bureau, said on Wednesday that HIV/AIDS transmission among gay men has been more severe in recent years.

The former editor of the now-defunct gay and lesbian newspaper Southern Voice has announced she will be launching a new publication early next year called Georgia Voice.

Last month, Window Media, which owned the Southern Voice, the Washington Blade and other publications, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, silencing some of the strongest of the voices for the LGBT movement and leaving about a dozen former Southern Voice staffers without paychecks.

Not to be defeated however, Chris Cash, the former owner of the Southern Voice, and Laura Douglas-Brown, the former editor, began a drive to save the publication soon after the Southern Voice was shut down permanently by it creditors and obtained a $12,000 matching grant from the Lloyd E. Grant Foundation of Atlanta.

“It became so clear in such a short period of time how much this publication was needed,” Douglas-Brown told the Atlanta Journal Constitution, last month.

Douglas-Brown has her work cut out for her, and is now busy contacting potential staffers and advertisers.

Douglas-Brown and Cash are also reaching out to the Atlanta LGBT community to help raise more seed money for the new venture at www.savesovo.com and are looking for donations from SoVo supporters to help get their project off the ground.

In an interview yesterday with Atlanta Public Radio station WABE Douglas-Brown said her top priority is making the new publication financially sustainable…

“That will mean certainly a smaller staff than Southern Voice and David magazine shared. It will mean using more freelancers, and it might even mean using volunteers. There are certainly people who have volunteered to help us on a pro-bono basis as we get started.”

Douglas-Brown also said in the interview, while some publications have become Web-only, she really wants to get out a traditional a print version of the publication.

“You want to be first and fast on the Web and sometimes that doesn’t leave as much time to look at the big picture of a story, really get analysis and feedback, and thats what we see doing in the print publication.”

Recently, Nick’s Parent’s Connect hosted the 2009 Parents’ Picks Awards, which gave parents from all over the country a chance to vote for their “favorite local family-friendly places”.

They are advertising free 6 month memberships for a limited time.

The ad network these ads originate from is the Gay Ad Network, and it is unclear at this time whether Compatible Partners plans to actually activate their campaign or not. I have yet to see these ads on another gay or lesbian website, but will most likely deny the ad buy for this site when it becomes active.

Anyone But Me is a web series online showing us a new generation searching for love and belonging – in the post 9/11 age.

Here is the concept for the show:

When 16 year old Vivian McMillan has to move from New York City to the suburbs, her relationships, past and present, are tested. And her identity goes through seismic changes. The daughter of a NYC firefighter, Vivian has no choice but to leave the city with her dad after health problems that he suffered trying to save people on September 11th forced him to retire. This moving, funny, and relevant new drama speaks to all ages and hearts as it follows the journey of six teenagers and the adults who try to understand them.

Vivian, played by Rachael Hip-Flores, and the character of Aster, played by Nicole Pacent, are a young lesbian couple in the series and have become fan favorites.

Anyone But Me is brought to us by Susan Miller, who is an Obie award winning playwright and was a Consulting Producer on Showtime’s hit series, The L Word. So far three episodes of the series have been uploaded and each highlights a different right granted by the California Constitution, and imagines what it would be like if that right were taken away, such as the way the right to marry was taken from same-sex couples in California with the passing of Proposition 8.

AfterEllen reports:

The first episode, “Religion,” is much less incendiary than the other two episodes released so far. The second episode, “Military,” involves rape, and the third episode shows a young African American woman being taken as a slave.

Here are the first three episodes, let us know what you think…

Episode 1: Religion

A couple returns home from church, effusive in their praise of religion. Just as they’re getting really worked up about Jesus, two Prop 8 Agents burst in and knock them around with a Bible. When they protest that it is within their rights as citizens of California to enjoy religion, one of the agents barks, “No! It used to be your rights. Ever since Prop. 8 passed it paved the way to take it away!”

Episode 2: Military

A couple enjoys a leisurely afternoon together until the Prop 8 Agents knock down the door and commandeer their house for the military use, including making their daughter property of the U.S. Army. This episode isn’t funny to me, because the implication at the end is that one of the Prop 8 Agents is raping the daughter. “Well,” the parents say, “At least gays can’t get married.”

Episode 3: Slavery

A couple interviews a young African American girl for a job as a cook/housekeeper, but when she asks how much it pays, they double over with laughter. They’ll be taking her as a slave, they tell her. She explains that it’s not the 1800s; slavery is illegal. “If this were 2007 that would be true,” the guy says. “But this is the present. The gays lost their rights with the passage of Prop 8, and so did you when we voted to bring back slavery!”

AfterEllen.com says it’s time to tell the world who lesbian and bi women think are sexy, “because even with all the increased visibility we’ve had in the last decade, heterosexual men and women still dominate the discussion about who and what is attractive, online, on TV, and in magazines like People and Maxim.”

As you can see by the video below, a version of the classic game was played with Ellen and her wife Portia as one of the couples participating in the game. You can clearly see on the front of the seating box for contestant couples that the proud sponsor of the segment is non other than eHarmony.com…

This raises eyebrows with any LGBT who knows what has transpired between eHarmony and non-inclusion of same-sex couples on their site. The mere presence of the eHarmony logo on a seating box that Ellen and Portia are sitting in just seems so wrong.

Says the Boston Globe, “it might be the first dating site whose owners didn’t really want to create it.”

eHarmony claims to have a “scientific method” for matching singles, and initially only offered their matchmaking services to heterosexual couples. The formula used to match customers is based on research of straight, married couples, which is why the site says that membership is limited to heterosexuals.

This practice was challenged in 2005 when discrimination lawsuit was filed asking eHarmony to allow gay members.

eHarmony fought the lawsuit, but after the case was found to have probable cause, the company settled a compromise which resulted in ‘Compatible Partners’, which eHarmony promised to roll out by March 31. “It’s something we’re going to be fully supporting as a line of business,” says Paul Breton, a spokesman for eHarmony.

Members of the LGBT community that are aware of eHarmony’s prior history are not expected to welcome the new gay dating site with open arms.

There are many options for gay and lesbian dating online that are welcoming to the community they service. Many are even gay or lesbian owned, and there are also mainstream sites that are gay and lesbian-friendly. eHarmony initially took a stance that made the site appear to be not so friendly to same sex couples, and even after probable cause towards discrimination was found, eHarmony’s choice to create a separate but equal dating site in the form of Compatible Partners (rather than opening the doors of eHarmony to everybody) still gives of the appearance of anti gay to many gay and lesbian single who are looking for love and know the site’s history.

For those gay singles who may be unaware of the ties Compatible Partners has to eHarmony’s discrimination suit, it will be interesting to see if the matchmakers use the same formula for happiness, and how successful their site is at matching compatible partners together.

Google argues that it has many gay, lesbian and bi-sexual employees and many come to work for the company because they can get married in California. If those marriages are annulled then the company says it would lose key talent and be placed at a competitive disadvantage.

A statement on the Official Google Blog said….

In the wake of the election many were concerned with the impact Proposition 8 could have on the personal lives of people they work with every day, and on California’s ability to attract and retain a diverse mix of employees from around the world.

That’s why we’ve signed an amicus brief in support of several cases currently challenging Proposition 8 in the California Supreme Court. Denying employees basic rights isn’t right, and it isn’t good for businesses. We are committed to preserving fundamental rights for every one of the people who work hard to make Google a success.”
Google also argues that if proposition 8 is allowed to stand it will cause huge problems internally with payment systems. Health insurance, tax benefits and taxation systems based on the current recognition of gay marriage would have to be reorganized, at considerable cost.

Proposition 8, which makes same-sex marriage illegal under the California constitution, passed by a narrow majority in November after a $20 million campaign orchestrated primarily by churches, got it through.

Episodes of this lesbian comedy are found exclusively online, with a storyline leading the show to be called the “Lesbian Three’s Company”. For those who are not familiar with it, Three’s Company is an American sitcom that aired from 1977 to 1984 on ABC. The show revolves around three roommates who share an apartment and stories involve their constant misunderstandings, social lives, and struggle to keep up with rent. (It is a remake of the British sitcom Man About the House.)The 3Way storyline involves a recently divorced woman who moves her lesbian best friend into her house as part of a fresh start on life. Her lesbian friend moves her girlfriend in a week later, who has an ex who also enters the situation.

Stereotypes aside, the veteran acting and producing on the show is evident. Everyone embraces the schticky sitcom-style writing making the comparison to Three’s Company a fair one. Additionally, the show brings homages to fun TV classics ala the Brady Bunch, and even created fun spin-off shows within the show including Lady Cops, and Young Doctors Who Cry. It’s evident these ladies truly love TV, and if there’s a good, soapy backdrop, even better.

Do you know how rare that is? Many A-List celebrities stray from managing their own MySpace accounts let alone using the service for it’s actual purpose (to connect with others and display your personality through your page and blog). Lindsay Lohan, her sister Ali Lohan, and LiLo’s girlfriend Samantha Ronson (plus her brother Mark Ronson) all have MySpace accounts where they ‘top friend’ each other and you can frequently find Lindsay posting to her blog and making comments to Sam too.

today i was out with my friend Jamie and paparazzi wouldn’t stop asking me where samantha was. and i’m not writing this blog because i feel like i need to prove that i’m with my girl to anyone at all. but because it’s just annoying. and i want to vent. and i love myspace because it allows me to vent without having to deal with the noise of the “tabloids” and “stalkerazzi’s” ….

Of course Ms. Lohan does use her MySpace account for self-promotion purposes as well, yet she shows a different style in that she shares her photos and encourages her MySpace friends to share the pics from her photo albums. You can also find full music tracks instead of just a teaser clip, which is something that frustrates me about certain artists. She puts other artists such as Lily Allen in her top friends, and shows support for other artists in her blog sometimes too.

I love her page and am looking forward to reading more on her blog to get the first hand account of what’s going on between her and Samantha Ronson. Apparently eHarmony has lost some of its “loyal customer base” (HAVE THESE PEOPLE NOT FOUND ANYONE?) and it is still involved in some legal mess. Read it to see what they are sobbing about, and send the writer some tissue for his issues, C.O.D would be appropriate.

The following caught my eye:

eHarmony’s success didn’t come from its slick advertising campaigns. It was their high moral standards, because they rose above the ‘hook-up’ mentality of their competitors, and because they were openly helping people find marriage partners. Mr. Duffy is hardly alone among Christian conservatives in his disappointment with eHarmony.

Ok, so we are damned if we do, and we are damned if we don’t. What constantly follows us? That we want to just “Hook-up”. This reputation seems to follow our brothers (the boys) more than us, but since they always use the term “homosexual” it is safe to say that they always group us together. They don’t want us to marry, won’t allow it, yet they say that all we want to do is just hook-up. Make-up your mind. If you won’t allow us to marry, do not categorize us as not having morals, as being promiscuous and using that term “just wanting to hook-up”. I can tell you, that if you laid off of us, all this wouldn’t be happening, but since you pissed off the wrong group, deal with the consequences.

And for Pete’s sake, if this site had a customer base and now they are leaving you, it isn’t because of us joining, it is more that THEY HAVEN’T FOUND SOMEONE TO GET MARRIED TO: MEANING THE SITE IS NOT WORKING! QUIT BLAMING US FOR ALL OF YOUR CRAP!

On that note, Time mentioned eHarmony as one of the 5 Worst Websites:

But if you’ve taken the time to answer eHarmony’s 436 compatibility survey questions and paid its premium charges ($21 to $60 a month, depending on how many months you prepay), and the site then delivers terrible recommendations — or worse, rejects you as unmatchable — what do you tell yourself then? The company’s advice, to stick with it for several months to improve your odds of finding a soul mate, sounds all too self-serving (the longer you use the site the more you pay). The site also discriminates against gays.

My suggestion: Put your request in prayer, fast if you have to, if God sees you as deserving of a loving compatible spouse then He should place him/her in your life. Maybe since you keep messing with us, He doesn’t see it as fit for you to be married.

In last weeks election California voters approved a proposition freeing chickens from small cages, but people in California, Florida and Arizona passed measures banning same-sex marriages, while Arkansas voters barred unmarried couples from adopting or being foster parents.

So recently Lindsey Lohan’s main squeeze, Samantha Ronson has been writing blog posts denouncing voters for passing an animal rights proposition, while rejecting gay rights measures, and now says she has been receiving an inbox full of “furious emails” from animal rights activists.

Last week, Ronson wrote this on her My Space celebrity blog comparing the newly approved animal rights to the rejection of several gay rights initiatives in various states….

i guess people care more about farm animals than they do their fellow man, that’s really sad to me.

yes, i am glad that the chickens will have more room and better conditions as they wait to die, but i just think it’s frightening that people show more compassion for tomorrow’s dinner than for the chef.

yup, miss piggy and chicken little may rest easy, but gay people in florida and california can no longer get married and gay couples in arkansas can’t adopt children. g-d forbid a loving family (regardless of sexual orientation) give a needy child a home! there aren’t children out there in dire need of love and shelter, no this country is thriving and no child is in need.

oh well, i guess one out of four ain’t bad!

been getting a lot of furious emails regarding my blog on prop 8 because I apparently offended some animal lovers. um, really people? i love animals as much as anyone, i don’t eat pork- so for those of you fighting that good fight against me… shut up! i was all for prop 2, however i was just pointing out the fact that people in california seem to care more about animal rights than human rights. that’s all. i’m not running around killing chickens for fun or firing a slingshot at a squirrel, nor was i promoting any such behaviour, i was simply venting…. much like I am now.

Hmmm chickens and not gay people huh?

Ok… I am hungry. Think I will head over to KFC now.

Seeing Beyonce’s picture on the LOGO homepage was a bit disorienting because she is straight, but the seeming reason for her appearance there is that her new video is called “If I Were A Boy”.The video shows the singer as a police officer, taking an aggressive role in her straight relationship to prove a point in double standards for men and women. Frankly, as a lesbian I was not impressed. The whole topic of the song, video storyline, and even the title reminded me of a much catchier song with a much hotter video that us lesbians could appreciate.

Ciara is an R&B singer who released the song “Like A Boy” in 2006.

The video shows the singer letting her boyfriend know that sometimes she wishes she could switch roles and be the “boy” in the relationship. Ciara then proceeds to present a femme and butch version of herself. The outfits Ciara and her dancers wear in the video seem to be inspired from a sexy lesbian clothing line and true dyke fashion. (They’re even wearing lesbian shoes and butch hats.) Beyonce gives us more of the same ’sexy straight girl with lip gloss’ in her video, and seems to be a video aimed more at pissing off Jay-Z then appealing to lesbians. Ciara’s video definately works at appealing to this lesbian!

In any case, judge for yourself. Here are both of the videos for you to watch and tell me, does Beyonce’s video appeal to you as a lesbian, or not so much? Do you like Ciara’s video better?
