It is not exactly the familiar sound of the TARDIS phasing into our reality, but it certainly is a sound that amounts to many a person typing themselves as far away from Netflix as possible. Recently, BBC Worldwide decided to set up a way for fans of Doctor Who to rent specific episodes for $1.50 per 48 hour period. Included in all of these appear to be most, if not all, of the Doctor Who episodes, and for someone who grew up watching bits and pieces of the show, that is marvelous.

This move also comes at a time when Netflix is announcing a defacto price hike. The movie rental company has announced that they are splitting their services come September and if a person wants to watch movies over the internet and get DVD rentals to their home, they will have to fork over for both. Right now, it costs $10 for a person to use both, but as of September, subscribers will either have to purchase one or the other, or purchase both if they want to continue using both services.

According to Techland:

Netflix rolled out an $8 per month streaming-only plan back in late November of last year and bumped its one DVD per month plan from $9 up to $10—that plan included streaming content as well, though. As recently as April of this year, Netflix foreshadowed that the licensing fees required to secure the rights to streaming content would “increase substantially.”

And while the amount of postage Netflix spends on sending DVDs out in the mail far outweighs the cost of streaming movies online, consumer demand for streaming content seems to have resulted in increased licensing costs—an estimated $700 million this year and a whopping $1.2 billion next year.

Netflix explained the whole move thusly:

“Last November when we launched our $7.99 unlimited streaming plan, DVDs by mail was treated as a $2 add on to our unlimited streaming plan. At the time, we didn’t anticipate offering DVD only plans. Since then we have realized that there is still a very large continuing demand for DVDs both from our existing members as well as non-members. Given the long life we think DVDs by mail will have, treating DVDs as a $2 add on to our unlimited streaming plan neither makes great financial sense nor satisfies people who just want DVDs. Creating an unlimited DVDs by mail plan (no streaming) at our lowest price ever, $7.99, does make sense and will ensure a long life for our DVDs by mail offering. Reflecting our confidence that DVDs by mail is a long-term business for us, we are also establishing a separate and distinct management team solely focused on DVDs by mail, led by Andy Rendich, our Chief Service and Operations Officer and an 11 year veteran of Netflix.”

The decision to bypass Netflix and deliver Doctor Who directly via Facebook may be a big boon for movie and television distributors if it works. Since the studio will directly sell their items through something like Facebook, they can cut down costs and maximize profits.

The Doctor Who episodes will be available in the US, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and includes one storyline entitled “The Greatest Show in the Galaxy” which has never been released to DVD. According to BBC Worldwide Chief Executive John Smith (who is not related to Matt Smith, the Eleventh Doctor), this move comes in response to the following that the current reboot of Doctor Who has had with fans and the show’s following on the official Facebook page.

Smith said “As we have grown internationally, we’ve seen through our Facebook channel that fans who are loving the new series are asking for a guide into our rich Doctor Who back catalogue… We see this service as a perfect way to give our fans what they want, as well as a great way for them to get their fix between now and late summer when Series Six continues.”

Of course, the production values of the older Doctor Who episodes are rather bad. The show has always been rather campy, but it still ranks as the longest running TV show in the history of the BBC. While that may be the case, a lot of people will still probably enjoy going through the back catalogue and see how the Doctor evolved over the years.

Janet Mock, a popular editor and blogger at People.com, recently sat down with writer Kierna Mayo to discuss a recent article that was published about her in Marie Claire.

The article also goes into Mock’s trip to Thailand, where she had one of her final surgeries, as well as, telling her mother about her impending decision.

Perhaps Facebook needs to institute a “foot in mouth” option for their website, since it is starting to become the usual for them lately. This time the social media titan made a splash by temporarily banning a movie ad portraying two women touching tongues. The rep for the movie, Attenberg (where the image came from) is citing a potential double standard from Facebook; due to the fact that another movie that the company released showing a heterosexual couple kissing had no problems being featured on Facebook.

This isn’t new being that, Facebook recently came under fire for removing an image of two men kissing at a local pub for a “kiss in” protest. After public scrutiny, Facebook put the image back up and issued an apology, where they stated that the images was removed “in error.”

An error that Facebook has already made twice in one month’s time, perhaps it is not an issue of it being an error but more about the publishers not being receptive to LGBT advertisements. Even though Facebook does have rules and regulations when it comes to images that they will display on their website, there are no rules in place to censor two adults kissing – no matter the sexual orientation. Yet, it seems someone within the Facebook Empire seems to think otherwise.

Steve Hall, an advertising expert believes it has less to do with the LGBT nature of the image because he feels girl-on-girl images are seen as less threatening as two men.

“It’s more likely a male gay ad would receive more scrutiny than a female gay ad. It seems society is more accepting of female on female than male on male. But it’s the right of any publisher to reject any ad for any reason they choose. That said, banning an ad that shows two women kissing really goes against what is considered acceptable these days. I’d say Facebook acted a bit too conservatively in this situation given the millions of racy images the organization allows on its profile pages.”

Exactly the point, not only that, this was not the first time Facebook has been known to act in this particular way – perhaps, diversity and inclusion training is in order.

Of course, there are others that believe that since Facebook is a private entity that they have a right in what they deem as appropriate.

New York based strategist, Adam Weiss stated, “Why must we as a society have a problem if it’s a gay or a lesbian ad and some company doesn’t feel it’s the right fit? Private companies should have the right in America to decide their own advertising policies.”

Fox News Pop Tarts column contacted Facebook for a statement regarding the image removal received a statement from the company 24 hours later.

“Upon investigation, we concluded the advertisement does not violate our guidelines and was removed in error,” said Andrew Noyes, Manager, Public Policy Communications at Facebook. “The ad is now running and we apologize for the inconvenience.”

With Facebook being as popular as it is, one would think they would be taking the opportunity to lead the way when it comes showcasing diversity and inclusion. If that is too much of a burden for the company, then they need to address it publicly – instead of allowing publishers to execute opinions passive-aggressively.

One thing about the gang at FCK H8 – they always know how to pack a punch. Their newest installment has a vivacious cast of characters explaining they hypocrisy behind Tennessee’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill. The video itself is quite entertaining, making sure to get the point across. Reactions on Youtube has bee mixed with  even some of the disapproving comments coming from the LGBT community. Some feel that the video relies on stereotypes, which may cause a bigger faux-pas when it comes to trying to get their message across.

Google Chrome unveiled their new “It Gets Better” video Monday, to mostly positive reaction. The video is spliced with Dan Savage, regular folk, and celebrities all saying the signature slogan, “It All Gets Better.”

The video is short, sweet and highlights the issues surrounding the LGBT epidemic. It is nice to see a mega company like Google behind the helm supporting this movement but at the same time, something doesn’t sit well. Maybe it is due to the fact that this video is VERY obviously sponsored by Google – since all of their products seem to be featured within the length of the commercial. Almost like the company was saying it will get better, but until then – you can use all our products to take your mind off it. Nice to know that even LGBTQ teen suicide can be capitalized upon.

Another thing, even though it is commendable to have straight celebrities tell us that it will in fact, get better – it is less credible being that they haven’t gone through the same thing.

Nice to see the elders of the LGBTQ set being represented – finally.

With the recent passing of acclaimed Professor Manning Marable, so close to the release of his new book about slain black civil rights leader, Malcolm X, which has been lauded as one of the top authoritative books about the leader, notable websites have come out addressing not only Marable’s book but the civil rights leader’s sexual orientation.

In Marable’s book, the author discusses how the slain leader wrestled with plenty of demons like any other human being during various stages of life. His book discusses Malcolm X’s relationships with Elijah Mohammad and the Nation of Islam, his struggles about being a black nationalist leader and his doubts about theology and politics. In other words, it shows Malcolm X as human battling his own demons and convictions, in some instances relying on sensationalism in order to keep readers engaged and interested.

In Marable’s biography, “Making Malcolm” The Myth and Meaning of Malcolm X”, which has been praised as the most thorough and exhausting job that has ever been done pertaining to the life and evolution of Malcolm X, he tries his best to shed new light upon the activists image, at the same, disputing some well known facts about the leader. Not even Alex Haley, whose biography has been paraded around college campuses for decades like gospel, has been cited by scholars as exhibiting many flaws in the storytelling of Malcolm’s life.

Through the course of the book, Marable attempts at fleshing out a lot of the gaps in Malcolm X’s history, while also discrediting a lot of the work done by the authors Haley and Bill Perry.  Even though in Haley’s case, Malcolm did intentionally gloss over some facts while exaggerating others, which suited Haley because he wanted to showcase the Malcolm that would uphold the black race, so blurring the facts assisted his cause. At the same time, the same can’t be said regarding the facts that Perry weaves in his biography.

In one of the recent articles from The Grio, the author discusses that the notion of Malcolm X’s bisexuality is often blown out of proportion and can be rarely misconstrued on something he battled with during the bulk of his adult life.

“It should be said outright that this area of Malcolm’s life is neither new nor novel. Speculation about his sexuality soared after the publication of a 1992 book, ‘Malcolm: The Life of a Man Who Changed Black America.’ The novel’s author, Bruce Perry, alleges Malcolm had sporadic same-sex encounters throughout his hustling years, claims that have yet to be independently verified. However, Marable’s scholarly research in A Life of Reinvention discounts the idea that Malcolm was a practicing bisexual. The rather amorphous claim, based exclusively on Malcolm’s employment by Lennon as his personal butler, barely takes up one full page of the 600-plus behemoth. The professor even goes out of his way to explain that there was “no evidence from his prison record in Massachusetts or from his personal life after 1952 that he was actively homosexual.”

So one must question whether Manning was trying to show the real historical relevance surrounding one of the most secretive civil rights leaders or is this a ploy to garner more press for his book? Compared to others, Marable might have more sources to back up his claims but even with his findings, some can be seen as a stretch.

There is no secret that Malcolm X’s life is shrouded in mystery, perhaps in an attempt to show the strides he made towards African-American civil rights. At the same time, why is his sexuality being continuously brought up for discussion?

Today, the popular (often, white, gay male leaning) blog, Queerty decided to throw their two cents into the ring concerning the recent resurgence of Malcolm X. Instead of discussing Marable’s new book – which is the most relevant, whether you agree with the content or not, they instead decided to quote Perry’s 1991 “biography” concerning what they deem the most pertinent part of Malcolm X’s “legacy”. In doing so, they denigrated one of the most pertinent civil rights activists to escort status, showing how much respect they give towards the assassinated leaders legacy. In a direct excerpt from the news site, they quote some of the “facts” from Perry’s, in order to prove their case:

“…Perry’s book documents Malcolm X’s many gay experiences. A schoolmate, Bob Bebee, recalls the day they stumbled on a local boy jerking off. Malcolm, Bebee recalled, ordered the youth to masturbate him, and subsequently boasted he had given him oral sex. Later, from the age of 20, Malcolm had sex with men for money – as hinted at in Spike Lee’s 1992 biopic – and he had at least one sustained sexual liaison with a man. While living in Flint, Michigan, his roommate noticed that instead of sleeping in the room they were sharing, Malcolm sneaked down the hall to spend the night with a gay transvestite named Willie Mae.

In New York, two of Malcolm’s friends from Michigan remember bumping into him at the YMCA, where Malcolm bragged he earned money servicing ‘queers’. Later, Malcolm worked as a butler to a wealthy Boston bachelor, William Paul Lennon. According to Malcolm’s sidekick Malcolm Jarvis, he was paid to sprinkle Lennon with talcum powder and bring him to orgasm. Perry suggests that Malcolm’s gay encounters may not have been entirely financially motivated. His masculine insecurities and ambivalence towards women fit the archetype of a repressed gay man and point to latent homosexuality.”

Also, the book seems to focus more on Malcolm’s supposed dalliances over the strides he made within the civil rights movement. After all, I guess how he helped shape the black movement is irrelevant if we aren’t privy to his alleged sex life.

Yet, what Queerty fails to mention regarding the biography and its supposed “accounts” that tend to read more like a Jackie Collins novel, instead of non-fiction is that Perry later came to admit that the book contained several blatant exaggerations and outright falsehoods. In some cases, he admitted that a lot of his “stories and facts” remained unsupportable. So, how can any portion of this book be taken as a reliable source concerning Malcolm X’s personal story and history?

Simply put, it can’t – unless you want to be taken as a gossip mag and with some of the folks Queerty has recruited within their ranks, the site already isn’t too far off.

Queerty’s post is showing – yet again – that perhaps some of the privileged white, gay, usually male liberals (in Queerty’s case, anyway) want take satisfaction in slandering black, historical figures, even if sexuality has nothing to do with the case overall. Sloppily, trying to show (again) that there is nothing but hypocrisy spewing from the black population, no matter the time period or accomplishment.

Letting it be know that, when a blog quotes a source from an author that has come out admitting their own exaggeration, while at the same time, equating the historical figure at hand to an escort who deserves a Hookie Award (with an Africa comment to boot!) has not only lost their credibility but a sense of class as well.

Curve Magazine has recently partnered with Studology 101, in order to bridge the gaps between the white, hispanic, and black LGBTQ communities. Pookz and DZ are native Texans and have been on the internet since 2008 – so they aren’t new to the game.

The Dapper Duo

The pair talk about various issues that surround the Millennium Generation, where they express their own opinions – at times, in a non PC format. Other times, they show their playful side – poking fun at each other and life in general, showing that life doesn’t have to always be serious.

The duo describes Studology as a underground movement within the queer community aimed at discussing pertinent issues from a studs perspective. With the knowledge that the LGBTQ community in itself is diverse, the group is not about pigeon holing but more about sharing diversity pertaining to themselves and the things they come in contact with during the course of their video filming. By doing that and believing in their brand – they have developed their own niche in an very much segregated LGBTQ market. This way of thinking,  recently caught the attention of Curve magazine and soon the stud pair found themselves with their own web-articles placement on the popular lesbian magazine’s website.

Even though, this is new territory both for the duo and Curve, we hope that this means more integration when it comes to people of color and mainstream LGBT sources. As an aside, where is the femme black girl love? It seems that when it comes to the black community, there seems to be a hierarchy of sorts (whether the community will be open about it or not) concerning black studs and femmes. At the same time, when it comes to a POC presence in most LGBTQ blogs – you have to assimilate and try your best to fit within the parameters of what that magazine deems their “type”. These types usually seem to involve an assortment of:

• the resident butch, stud, boi
• the granola, hippy-esque dyke lesbian
• the hipster, tattooed up lesbian
• the nerdy “love me for my brains and snarky wit” lesbian
• the “omg, i can’t believe you’re a lesbian” lesbian
• the random ethnic lesbian (which is comprised of any and all ethnic groups because it is easier to lump all together than separate – rarely is it a black lesbian but bonus points if you are a stud)

Now, it is great what Studology is doing. People of color need to be put out there, regardless of how they identify – which is very understandable. Hopefully, it won’t be forgotten that there are others under the POC umbrella that also want to express their stories and issues, firsthand and not by proxy, no matter how charming their counterparts might be.

Well, anyone who has ever played any fantasy games usually notices that there are some character classes that are imbued with Christian-esque symbology. For instance, Paladins in the two Blizzard game series Diablo and Warcraft make heavy use of Christian symbology. Somehow, this guy just seems lame and nightmare inducing compared to those guys.

It seems GLAAD is not the only gay organization up in arms about the homophobic slurs that have been spilling out of the WWE as of late (and with good reason).

The WWE has been in hot water with the gay community due to the recent amount of homophobic taunts that one of its top performers John Cena has been quoted using during his taunting of other wrestlers. Due to GLAAD’s expressed outrage, the WWE agreed to enter into an agreement with the organization, in which the WWE expressed that they would no longer use words that the gay community might deem as bullying.

Enter, announcer Michael Cole, who felt like embodying his TV alter ego a few days ago by tweeting a homophobic slur to his colleague Josh Matthews. Although, the tweet was promptly deleted with Michael Cole promptly issued an apology – the damage had already been done. Yet, homophobic slur-throwing Cole was able to get away with just a slap on his insensitive wrist. Painting the WWE as an entity not capable of keeping their word and showing how little the feelings of the gay community really do matter.

At the same time, GLAAD will still assist the WWE in an anti-bullying platform (which as punishment, Michael Cole will have to take part in), though it is hard to believe that the WWE will even take this seriously. Being that, sensationalism and degradation sells headlines and what could be more humiliating than one pink tight wearing man calling another bare-chested, greased up man a homophobic slur – yes, it all makes perfect sense!

Well, all the hoopla surrounding the WWE has caught the attention of the big guns – the Pro Gay Wrestling Federation and they are letting it be known that they are outraged at Michael Cole and the lax punishment he was given, TMZ has reported.

The PGW’s current champion, The Gay Avenger (have to say, the name is fabulous!) happens to be quite upset that Cole tweeted such an “intolerant and insensitive” comment and insists that the only thing that Cole aided in is encouraging a “hostile bullying environment.”

Francis Minks, the PGW founder and CEO also chimed by adding, “”How can ANYONE at the WWE say anything derogatory about gay people?? Look at what they do and have been doing for a living for years! Big muscles, small tights rolling around! I’m just saying, honey.”

Don’t forget about those submissions holds, short shorts, and all that facial make-up – seriously, whom does the WWE really think they’re fooling anyway?

Muffin top is defined as “a protuberance of flesh above the waistband of a tight pair of trousers.” So, anytime you see that protruding flesh peeking out from a pair of too tight pants, remember that you are witnessing muffin topping at its finest.

Oxford has currently revised more than 1900 entries in their online dictionary. With the new update, several popular Internet initialisms have been given the

green light. Phrases such as LOL (laugh out loud), IMHO (in my humble opinion), and BFF (best friends forever) have finally permeated the classic online dictionary. With the onslaught of  texting and platforms such as Twitter growing in popularity,  the need to be able to say what you want in fewer than 200 characters had to be overcome. The Oxford English Dictionary has explained that the newly admitted words are considered to be initialisms that can be used in an online arena or as an “informal, gossipy mode of expression.”

Whether that is truly the case or the OED trying to rationalize their new inclusions without feeling like they are “dumbing down” the English language remains to be unknown.

In other words, “OMG, this is  really only the beginning!”

The Ugandan Parliament seems uncertain as to whether or not the Kill the Gays Bill will be debated on a make up session, preceding the new Parliament. From here in Cape Town South Africa I have noticed that the ANC, the President, Jacob Zume and the SA ambassador are all silent and exerting no influence whatsoever to attempt to halt the legislation.

THE Speaker of Parliament, Edward Kiwanuka Sekandi, has summoned MPs to report to the House on March 22.

Hellen Kaweesa, the public relations manager of Parliament, said the clerk to Parliament had already notified all the MPs to return and handle unfinished business.

Last year, Sekandi sent Parliament on recess to allow MPs get enough time for their recent elections campaigns. The catch up Bills to be debated include the parliamentary pensions amendments Bill of 2010, the anti-homosexuality Bill and the retirements benefits authority Bill.

This sitting will be the first since the Constitutional Court kicked out 77 MPs from the House for refusing to vacate their seats before defecting to other parties.

The 8th Parliament, whose term expires in two months time, has remained with only 255 MPs.

This is of concern given that The New Vision’s majority ownership is the Ugandan government. Warren Throckmorton says “I suspect that opponents and proponents of the bill will be jockeying for their agenda over the next several weeks.”

Throckmorton reported recently “that Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Committee Chair Stephen Tashobya was unsure if the bill would come up. In light of the New Vision report, I asked him if the bill might now make the agenda. He told me that the Parliament would indeed reconvene on March 22 but that the agenda had not yet been decided. He said, “What I can say is that we have a lot of work to get done and if there is time to get to that bill (the Anti-Homosexuality Bill) then we will look at it, but if there is no time, then we won’t be able to this session.” Tashobya added that the agenda would not be worked out until Parliament reconvenes and that he could not confirm anything at this point.”

This uncertainty indicates that activists must bow up the ante – any ideas?  One is to write to Department of State.

When LezGetReal called the Uganda Desk at the DOS to discuss Uganda, it was  clear that the Department is indeed keeping a watchful eye; however one wonders  what we can do to be more proactive in our attempts tom thwart the Bill.

Will we ever threaten divestment?  Or do we need to wait for passage?

South Africa’s leadership is defying the responsibility bestowed upon it , by its Constitution,  as it pertains to the rest if Africa, by failing to pick up a critical human rights issue that has besieged the Continent and is spreading

Married but sometimes self-identified bisexual (ARE YOU ALL HAPPY NOW?? Please see any of the comments on my prior posts on Margaret Cho if you don’t know what I’m talkin’ ’bout Willis)  comedian Margaret Cho addressed Bristol Palin’s participation on “Dancing with the Stars” on her blog. Posting that Sarah Palin was probably the driving force behind her appearance and that Instead of being supposedly ‘handicapped’ by the presence of her teen mom daughter, now Bristol is going to be an ‘asset.’”

Bristol Palin being Bristol Palin, decided to respond via Facebook. Also, for some reasons, she decides to get lesbians involved. Specifically, the Indigo Girls and the very dear to my own heart, Ms. KD Lang. Bristol writes:

“You say you ‘don’t agree with the family’s politics at all’ but I say, if you understood that commonsense conservative values supports the right of individuals like you, like all of us, to live our lives with less government interference and more independence, you would embrace us faster than KD Lang at an Indigo Girls concert.”

 1) This post was obviously not written by Bristol. She is too young to really be familiar with the Indigo Girls or KD Lang. I mean, I barely know who the Indigo Girls are.

2) Why the hell did she even bring lesbians into this? What the hell have we ever done to her? If I remember correctly, she and her mother are the ones who want to strip us of our rights and keep us second class citizens forever. The Straights are the ones who come after the Palin’s hard with no provocation. Lesbians? Not so much. Except for me, but I’m mean. I guess it was a thinly veiled reference to Cho’s sexuality and her activism on behalf of LGBT civil rights. Which is a really low blow to a relatively innocent observation of the Palin family’s political maneuvering. Really, considering Cho’s outrageous comedy style, the Palins got off EASY with that blog post.

3) It doesn’t make sense…who is embracing whom? Does she mean Margaret Cho would embrace KD Lang at an Indigo Girls concert? Askmen.com had a poll asking it’s readers who they thought was the most influential man of 2010 and the answer was: Jon Stewart! Askmen.com writes of “The Daily Show” host: Despite his innumerable enemies, Stewart’s acerbic take on the madness around him continues to draw audiences who look to the funnyman as a voice of reason. Stewart’s show was once dubbed the ‘fake news,’ but these days it’s become our youths’ most trusted source of information, and its host the most trusted man in America.”

It’s a great sign to see a liberal man who embraces people of all religions, races and sexual orientation voted into favor by a men’s online magazine. The top five influential man list includes:  Microsoft chairman Bill Gates, Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg, Apple’s Steve Jobs, and Kanye West.

Although, maybe if the men were more informed about Steve Jobs anti-porn sentiments, he wouldn’t have made it onto the list!

Adam Lambert is the latest celebrity to make an “It Gets Better” PSA video. The videos are aimed towards LGBT youth, telling them that there is more to life than the teenage years, which can be rough. The “It Gets Better” movement was started by gay blogger Dan Savage. Celebrities such as Nicki Minaj, Ke$ha and Aubrey O’Day have participated.

Lambert, in his video, reveals that he is also frequently bullied, but there is more to life than orientation. Watch below:

We all know that guy, the one who when someone accidentally brushes against him in the subway turns around and punches the other person in the face? Yeah, Nick Cannon is that guy. I want to like him, because he’s married to Mariah Carrey and now she’s happy Mariah and not nervous breakdown Mariah, but bitch is acting like a bitch.

On Thursday evening, Chelsea Handler, who hosts an E! late night talk show that lambasts the foibles of celebrities, tweeted:

I just heard nick cannon is starting a comedy tour. Who’s going to do the comedy?

Just one line, just a silly, vague joke and then Nick Cannon exploded in RAGE. He has been tweeting insults at Chelsea for HOURS, basically non-stop and has even bought 50 Cent (whom Chelsea has been rumored to be involved with), Eminem and Howard Stern into the mix. The actor was a patient at the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation which is a clinic in San Fernando Valley which caters to pornography actors. The clinic’s spokeswoman Jennifer Miller has informed the Los Angeles Times that efforts are underway to notify individuals who may have had sexual contact with the actor, but she has not released any other information.

Both Wicked Pictures and Vivid Entertainment have stopped production as a precaution after the positive test was revealed.

The adult entertainment industry has come under a great deal of pressure and scrutiny over the lack of condom use on set which puts performers at risk for not only contracting HIV/AIDS but also other diseases. The response from the film producers is that viewers find the condoms to be a turnoff. Actors in the pornography industry are required, in California, to test negative for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases within thirty days of going to work on a film.

Last year, a woman tested positive right after making an adult film. In 2004, an HIV outbreak hit several actors and spread panic throughout the industry. Two California studios shut down production temporarily.

Cal/OSHA’s state workplace safety officials are considering strengthened rules in order to prevent transmission of disease through bodily fluid and specifically requiring the use of condoms in the adult entertainment industry. State laws call on healthcare professionals to weart gloves and other protective barriers, and that same law does apply to the adult film industry, but does not specify use of condoms for pornographic films.

Michael Weinstein, president of the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, has stated that his organization has been advocating the tightening of rules for the adult entertainment industry and that the AIM clinic would “do everything in its power to prevent us from knowing who was impacted.”

According to Weinstein, this is the ninth HIV-positive adult film start to be treated at the AIM clinic since 2004. Chief Counsel for Cal/OSHA Amy Martin has stated that the clinic has been uncooperative in providing key information. The clinic has cited the federal right to medical privacy. Martin has said that the clinic has refused to even offer redacted copies of employment histories for infected actors. These redacted histories would allow the state to investigate porn production companies without naming the sick patients.

Or when HuffPost named you one of our 2009 Game Changers, saying that The Daily Beast was “pure Tina yet completely true to the Web, merging the high and low.” Or when I was quoted saying I considered you “a great friend and a great editor.” But the super-sleuths at The Guardian are obviously just too damn good at this old-school gumshoe journalism thing to fall for that old ruse.

TBrown: Those brilliant newshounds even realized what it really meant when I ran an extract of your new book, Third World America, two weeks ago. Or featured you in that gallery we did on The Beast as one of the 25 smartest people of the decade, with the citation you had turned “the concepts of content aggregation and citizen journalists into an essential media platform,” blah blah blah.

AriHuff: Think they would ever run a piece about two guys’ business strategy being fueled solely by bitch-slap rivalry?

TBrown: Tell me about it. The male editors around town all must be bosom buddies, because otherwise The Guardian’s crack investigative team would no doubt have exposed them.

AriHuff: BTW, it was cunning of you to spin the Newsweek/Beast rumors just to get back at me, and so sweet of Barry to suggest you start The Beast as your revenge vehicle.

TBrown: Well, when I heard Forbes was going to press with its Most Powerful Women list with me at 34 and you at 28, it sent me right over the top!

AriHuff: At least we were both higher than the queen. Have you talked to her lately, you royal toady?

TBrown: Just last week, you big slice of gyro. She’s still really pissed at all the attention showered on Helen Mirren in The Queen.

The Real Girl’s Guide to Everything Else week is almost over! Our last interview with the stellar cast of the popular webseries is with Jennifer Weaver. Jennifer plays Rasha’s curvy financee Liz. Liz combines feminism with a pin-up girl flair. Liz provides a sharp contrast to Rasha’s group of zany friends, she is down to earth and doesn’t buy into media stereotypes of what a woman should be. Also, Jennifer gets to make out with Robin Dalea, which is an awesome job to have. Also, series creator, Carmen Elena Mitchell might have turned Jennifer into a lezzy. Jennifer Weaver, in addition to playing Liz, is also an Associate Producer. Jennifer is gearing up to scream in an upcoming horror film. 

LGR:  Liz kind of gets the fuzzy end of the lollipop in season 1, do you hope things will get better for her in season 2?

JENNIFER:  Ha! Yeah that is true, isn’t it. She deserves better so maybe the writer will see to it.

LGR: I hear that your “research” for the role of Liz got a little out of control. Can you tell us about that?

JENNIFER:  Uh…in short - I went from dating men to dating a woman before I knew it! Talk about how life imitates art!

LGR: Why do you think Vanna and Liz have so much tension?

JENNIFER:  Vanna just wants a Liz and Rasha sandwich! Well, I think it’s very common for tension to exist between best friends and the significant other, not that that has ever happened to me, of course. Both are vying for the same person’s attention, often in different ways, but still there’s a competition. Vanna always has crazy ideas and actually alters Rasha’s appearance - tension is bound to happen, i.e. who wants to look at an ugly vag?

LGR: Like lots of aspiring artists, you gave waitressing a try. What’s your best ‘bad waitress’ story?

JENNIFER: Oy. One chick yelled at me when I tried to clear her plate, “We’re eating!” One guy grabbed my arm when I told him he shouldn’t drink anymore (he was sh*t-faced) and protested. One old business man slapped my ass as I walked by. Those are the top 3.

NPR heralds the queer friendly webseries, “The Real Girl’s Guide to Everything Else” as the nuevo “Sex and the City.”

The Real Girl’s focuses on engaged lesbian Rasha and her trio of wacky friends, Vanna, Angie and Sydney. Rasha relies on her friends to help her with a chick lit book she must write in order to keep her career thriving. Reena Dutt plays Sydney, the most outgoing character of the Real Girls ensemble. In every scene she is in, there is no telling what Sydney will do to provoke a reaction from her friends or get a laugh from the viewers. Reena is also an Associate Producer on Real Girls and has appeared on many primetime television shows such as “Criminal Minds,” “Medium,” and “Out of Practice.”

LGR:      Sydney is the most outgoing character on the show. Are there any similarities between you and her? i.e., would flash your giney to your friends?

REENA: My giney stays hidden in the bush down-under.  He’s also an Aussie.  So with that comes a lot of beer-drinking, and with that comes a brash and blunt R-Du.  So, yes, I am very similar to Sydney…in general (insert uncomfortable clearing-of-throat here)

LGR:      As an Indian American actress in the comedy genre, do you get compared to Mindy Kaling often and what will you do to the next person who asks you this question?

REENA: Whoah! I WISH!!! That would be most amazing.  And I would make out with the *first* person who asks me that…

LGR:      Have you figure skating abilities ever come in handy while you are acting?

REENA: Only when shooting horror movies. Funny thing – almost every figure skating movie’s character breakdown is Caucasian only! I guess Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan had a huge impact on the industry.

LGR:      There is some tension between Angie and Sydney, because they are so opposite. Do you think they will end up fighting or making out in season 2? 

REENA: Both, in that order. But only after Sydney gets her kicks mocking her best friend

We’ve spoken with Robin Dalea, Carmen Elena Mitchell and Heather de Michele of the popular queer themed webseries, “The Real Girl’s Guide to Everything Else.” Now, it’s actress Nikki Brown’s turn to be put in the hot seat! Nikki plays Rasha’s bestest best friend and head bitch in charge, Vanna. Nikki as Vanna is the leader of Rasha’s group of friends and bosses around the other ladies mercilessly. She is known for her fashion sense, beauty and general hardassedness. The plot of the first season of Real Girl’s see’s it’s main character, Lebanese lesbian, Rasha researching how to act like a straight woman in order to write a rom-com based in Afghanistan. Her best friend Vanna takes the lead in teaching Rasha how to act like a stereotypical straight woman, much to the chagrin of Rasha’s fiancee, Liz.

Nikki herself is a multi-talented actress and singer with a busy schedule of theater and film projects. She is also a producer with Sheroes in Production. She lives her life fearlessly and in this interview she opens up about Real Girl’s, Oprah and her sexy co-star!

LGR:      It’s a little known fact that you are a big Oprah fan. Why? Also, do you think her and Gayle King get down and dirty together?

NIKKI:  How did you discover this information?….Uhhm, she is my long lost Aunt! I WISH! She is just such an amazing woman and when there weren’t many role models and representations of me as a young girl…there was Auntie Oprah! Who knows? My wish may come true! So…Oh, I am sorry but we don’t tell family secrets…I plead the 5^th!

LGR:      You and Robin have a ton of chemistry on camera. Do you think there is tension between Liz and Vanna because Vanna secretly has feelings for Rasha?

NIKKI:   Oh, for sure! I mean Rasha and Vanna were college roomies, ya know.  Besides who doesn’t want Robin? I mean Rasha…

LGR:      What do you love about Vanna?

NIKKI:    That I was chosen to play her! Other than that I LOVE that all of her friends just follow her every word…LOL!

LGR:      You have played Shelby from Steel Magnolias in the past, who do you think would win in a mud-wrestling match, Vanna or Shelby?

NIKKI:    LMAO!!! This the best question EVER!! Hmmm, I think Shelby would totally kick Vanna’s Bootay. She has a lot more at stake, besides Vanna would be to busy wondering if the mud was from Glen Ivy.

It’s The Real Girls Guide to Everything Else appreciation week at Lez Get Real. The popular webseries has revolving around Rasha, a Lebanese lesbian journalist and her wacky friends has been featured on NPR, Jezebel, Cherrygrrl, Go Magazine and AfterEllen, to name a few. Cherry Grrl has said of the series: ““Best part is, the comedy is actually funny…its originality comes in that it is about four women and their friendship, and not four women befriended in their quest for a man. The fact that it sports such a (rare!) diverse cast is an appreciated bonus.” Lucky for me, I got to interview the women who write and direct the Real Girl’s.

Carmen Elena Mitchell is the driving force behind the Real Girl’s Guide to Everything Else. She is the Executive Producer and Writer, she also plays Angie, one of Rasha’s closest friends and by far, the shyest. Carmen is a published author and playwright. Also, she loves the literary device ‘aliteration’, as one can tell from her Lebanese lesbian protagonist. Heather de Michele is the Director for Real Girls and is in development on several other webseries. She is also a producer for Current TV. Together the two women make up the creative force that keeps the show going.

LGR:         You play Angie on the show but as the writer of the series, Rasha retains more of your personal characteristics. Is it weird to watch Robin portray a character that is so similar to you?

CARMEN:  Totally! I didn’t really realize it until we were on set…and I’m thinking “Who does Rasha remind me of?” It all seemed so familiar – her mannerisms, the way she’ll go off on the some feminist rant and then realize nobody knows what she’s talking about, the way she stumbles around in heels trying to be all “girlie girl”… and then suddenly I realized…”oh right, that’s ME!”

LGR:         Was it difficult on set to go back and forth between your role as a somewhat ditzy character and your role as executive producer?  

CARMEN:  Yeah, no one would take me seriously!  They started calling me “sweetie” a lot.  It probably didn’t help that I became obsessed with our director Heather de Michele’s American Girl Doll (a terrifying mini Dansko-wearing version of her) and dragged her around with me on set for an entire day.

LGR:         Why didn’t you give Rasha any lesbian friends in season 1?

CARMEN:  Gay characters have been traditionally utilized as the “side kick” or comic relief in straight comedies, so I wanted to see what happened if I inverted that dynamic.  Also, I think that’s reality. Lots of gay women have straight friends. Anyway…her friends are not TOTALLY 100% straight as you’ll see in Season 2.

LGR:         What kind of drama can we look forward to next season?

CARMEN:  All sorts of madness. Liz and Rasha become overnight “Celesbians,” Sydney goes to prison, Angie’s musical theatre ambitions are finally realized and…Vanna, I can’t even tell you what’s going to happen with Vanna, all I can say is it’s wrong and creepy, and it involves a singing Jesus.

LGR:         Heather, the first season of Real Girls Guide took 7 days to shoot. Was the short time span a challenge for you?

HEATHER:It helped that we were well prepared and did a good deal of rehearsal ahead of time.  We spent at least 13 hours on the Rasha/Liz make out scene.

LGR:         How did you visually create ‘Afghanistan’ in the middle of LA?

HEATHER:  Ha!  We had access to some random, dusty attic full of rattraps in west LA, so we figured that was the next best thing to flying the cast and crew out to the Middle East.  We did a lot of close-ups in those episodes to conceal the bay windows and skylights.

LGR:          What is the most challenging part of working with these ladies? 

HEATHER:   There is nothing challenging about working with these gals.  They are a dream team… truly.

LGR:         Were there ever any conflicts between the way Carmen imagined the scenes when she was writing them and the way Heather imagined the scene on camera?

HEATHER: Surprisingly, no!  I think we were both very open and willing to roll with the punches.  Carmen has an non-coveting style as a writer and, as a producer, she giggles really easy so I could talk her into almost anything. 

CARMEN: And Heather is very easily manipulated into thinking that she’s in charge. All you have to do is tickle her and say… “who’s the best director in the room?!!”

LGR:         How much flexibility do you give the actors to improvise or change the lines of their dialogue? Which one of you makes that call?

HEATHER:  There were small changes here and there, but ultimately it’s the actors job to make that line work, until, after a period of time, it proves impossible.  Once you come to that place, you ask the actor what they feel fits.

CARMEN:  What she said!

LGR:         Will we see more sexy time for Rasha and Liz?

HEATHER:  I’m thinking a mud wrestling scene at the very least.

CARMEN: Oh, yeah. There’s a lot of steamy bedtime readings of feminist theory…that end up being anything but …theoretical (is that hot to anyone besides me?)

LGR:          Did you go into ‘Real Girls’ planning on having such a diverse cast? 

HEATHER:   Yep.  That was a goal of Carmen’s from the get go.  She wanted to cast actors of color in roles that were not just about their race.  A valiant and rare thing in casting these days.

CARMEN: Yes, what Heather said. Also I was going for what I saw as the opposite of the Sex and the City world, that is… the world of the wealthy, white, straight woman.

The MTV VMA’s were almost as boring at usual. I say ‘almost’ because Lady Gaga was there with her crazy outfits and her outspoken LGBT civil rights activism. Also, the show seemed a little less long. Chelsea Handler hosted the show this year and even her ascerbic wit couldn’t lighten up the dying dinosaur that the VMAs has become. There really is no way anyone can make this award show interesting or relevant again. That said Perez Hilton, controverisal gay entertainment blogger, called out Chelsea for her mediocre performance via twitter, saying:

I usually like her, but Chelsea Handler is sucking at the #VMAs – hard!

Chelsea responded by tweeting back:

@perezhilton oh, fuck off. I had a blast and the show awesome last night. Bomb? Your life is a bomb.

Chelsea also took the time to thank everyone, tweeting:

Thanks 4 watching everyone. I know I had a good night when I wake up with tape on my back & glitter on my face. Now, I have to go do my show

That was nice. Unfortch, I kind of agree with Perez…I LOVE Chelsea Handler. I bought all three of her books and I DVR her show everyday, but her VMA performance? As Chelsea Handler would say, “Not great.” She looked amazing though. I wish the makeup artist on her show would put some eyeliner on her, it makes her look 10 years younger…and that’s my analysis of the VMAs this year. Deep? Yes.

Editors say Qadita.net will be the first Arabic website to include a section on gay and lesbian writing, including reviews of Arab gay-oriented cinema and literature.

Two prominent Israeli-Arab literary figures yesterday launched www.Qadita.net, an Arabic-language politics and culture website they say will tackle issues widely considered taboo in the Arabic press, according to Israeli news HAARETZ.

The site’s editors are author Ala Hlehel and Anton Shalhat, a journalist and culture critic.

Hlehel said quality will be the sole determining factor for featuring items on the site. “We’ll post controversial texts that touch on social and cultural sensitivities,” he said. “The margins of freedom of the press in Arabic are shrinking under political and social tension from the whole Arab-Islamic scene, with its suffocating effect on free creation.”

Hlehel said yesterday that the site is aimed at “restoring the written word as the center of content in Arabic discourse and returning cultural texts as the focus of the Arab literary, cultural, political and societal experience.”

This will be the first Arabic website to include a section on gay and lesbian writing, he said.

“That section will be featured prominently on the home page,” he said. “It will include texts written by Arab gays and lesbians who, naturally, will publish anonymously.” He said the section would include reviews of gay-oriented cinema and literature in the Arab world and beyond.

By now you have all heard the tale of the homophobic offensive guard for the Philedelphia Eagles, Todd Herremans, who tweeted some anti-gay statements regarding the popular HBO show, True Blood. Specifically, he said: “Not a fan of how they get u hooked with the 1st 2 seasons then bring on a barrage of homosexuality.” Those damn vampires and their gayness! It’s so much worse than the whole “living on blood” thing. Am I right or am I right? … Or am I right?

Anyway, so the online queer community called Herremans out on his BS and he apologized. But Jason Zinoman, a writer over at www.Slate.com wrote an article today entitled, “True Blood’s “Barrage of Homosexuality” with the subtitle, “Was the Philadelphia Eagles’ Todd Herremans on to something?” Say what, dude? No way was Herreman onto something. Zinoman goes on to lavish us with his insights, which include that True Blood is trying to insight a gay panic riot in their straight male viewership. Because straight men are scared of the gays! Beware of the gays bro. Gays are cool as long as they don’t hit on me, right, dude? Zinoman writes:

The writers clearly enjoy making their audience feel uncomfortable. The excess of gore and the violent sex are designed to shock. They haven’t recently introduced homosexuality, as Herremans would have it, although you could make the case that there has been something of a barrage lately. And this season, the show’s fluid sexuality has a pointed dramatic purpose that invites and even encourages this kind of gay panic.

Maybe the show wants to make people uncomfortable, but it also wants to turn them on. There is a lot of sex in True Blood, hot sex, gay sex, lesbian sex, non-consensual sex, rough sex, etc. People like sex. People like sex and violence. I’m pretty sure HBO isn’t trying to gross out the bros, bro. Zinoman has a theory about how True Blood creates this homosexual panic. First, they get their straight male audience to get cool with a male character. There are tits involved, the straight male is like, dude maybe this vamp is coolio. Then BAM that cool vampire becomes a GAY vampire. But it’s too late because the dude bro has made a connection with the character and seeing this character have ‘the man sex’ freaks him out.

Last week, what bothered Herremans was surely the sex between Talbot and Eric. Straight male audiences surely identified with the confident alpha dog Eric, perpetually surrounded by adoring topless strippers. It was a shock to hear him explain that, when he said it’s been a long time since he’s “done this,” he was referring to vampires, not men.

DON”T YOU SEE HOW HBO IS MANIPULATING YOU, DUDE BROS! Zinoman writes:

True Blood performs a similar trick by getting straight male audiences invested in scenes of gay sexuality. Herremans’s tweet shows that it worked.

Wow. Sooo, True Blood showing the gay sex to freak out dude bro’s everywhere, instead of creating and telling a unique, compelling story that gets millions of viewers to tune in every week. Who knew?

Am I being too hard on dude bro Zinoman’s entry? Maybe. Recently, Slate has become kind of a weird place with feminist bloggers (and my personal favs) such as Hanna Rosin defending a Cornell scientist who used vibrators on young female children as well as a Cornell report that said partial female circumcision was okay, defending the doctor who gave out “anti-lesbian” pills to women pregnant with female children and attacking Jezebel.com. I used to love Slate, but what the hell is in their water coolers lately?

Perez Hilton and his mother,Teresita made their second video together, talking about the Prop 8 decision. Teresita is pro-marriage equality. This is refreshing, it is good to see a Latina supporting marriage equality.In the media, Latinos are often portrayed as narrow minded and opposed to LGBT rights, when in reality there are people on both sides of the issue, just as there are in other ethnic and cultural groups.

Do you think Teresita is pro-gay because her son became arguably one of the most successful, powerful gay men in the media? Teresita says that whether or not her son was gay, she would be for marriage equality. She says that with age comes wisdom and as she has gotten older she has realized that marriage equality is the way to go. She is also pro-LGBT adoption rights. They close the video with an invocation to the Supreme Court to have an open mind, should the Prop 8 case make it that far, then they high five. Watch the vid below:

Rosie O’Donnell isn’t the only outspoken woman who disaproves of Obama appearing on The View. Former Alaskan Governor for half a term, Sarah Palin is letting us all know, over twitter, what she would have done if she were President instead of him. She would have gone to the US-Mexican border, in face she is going there soon. Because the border is porous, like the sponges that the hockey moms use to wash their dishes of American love and pride and that’s not a good thing.

“Anyone But Me” is a popular LGBT youth oriented webseries. The series has won numerous awards for it’s portrayal of New York City lesbian teen Vivian McMillian (Rachel Hip-Flores) and her struggle with her sexuality and navigating the already tricky high school social scene. The series has received accolades not only for their portrayal of LGBT teens and straight allies, but also for their complex exploration of racial dynamics in high school. Despite the heavy subject matter, the series is also at times humorous and always engaging. The good news? They are hosting a webathon!

The Web-A-Thon will run in a three part series airing July 27th through 29th online at 4:00 PM EST. It will be hosted by entertainment reporter Lisa Bernhard, the Thon will feature guest appearances by your favorite ABM actors. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Ali Forney Center, the largest agency dedicated to providing housing and services to homeless LGBT youth in NYC. The rest will go to support the show and keep it in production. This series promotes acceptance of LGBT youth in a medium that is appealing to teens across the country. Given the recent controversy where teen Constance McMillen was kept from attending her school prom because she was a lesbian, this series is really more important than ever.

Brandy Alexander, aka sexidance, is vying for most vile online personality! In a desperate bid for attention, this little lesbian hater decided to tweet @samantharonson.

when is @samantharonson gonna get hate crimed?she’s the type of lesbians that are giving america cancer.

Great grammar, “sexidance.” Samantha fired back with:

no, that’s cigarettes RT @sexidance when is @samantharonson gonna get hate crimed?she’s the type of lesbians that are giving america cancer.

Ronson then blocked “sexidance” (who is undoubtedly an ugly sack of crap) and sexidance capitalized on the attention by complaining about lesbians who are in dire need of penis and calls gay men the f word! Obviously, she will be marching at NYC Pride next year.

Gay Icon Cyndi Lauper is getting her own reality t.v. show! 

NYDN reports that Lauper is getting her own reality show: “Now that she’s been bitten by the reality-show bug, she’s moving on to another project: her own reality program with ‘Survivor’ czar Mark Burnett. It will be about what Lauper calls ‘the comedy of our lives’ — meaning life on the upper West Side with her husband of 19 years, actor David Thornton, and their 12-year-old son, Declyn.”

Sooo exciting! I would watch. Cyndi was also on the Joy Behar Show and talked about Miley Cyrus and Lady Gaga. She defends the young stars, their edgy looks and their sexuality. Would you expect anything else from her? Watch the clip below:

Biggest Loser trainer Jillian Michaels took to Twitter and FaceBook last night to answer fans questions about weight loss and her new show, ‘Losing it With Jillian.’ Not surprisingly, none of the questions accepted were about her tightly guarded personal life (although if sources in WeHo are to be believed, she and her girlfriend are huge fans of She Bar) but she did answer a lot of helpful weightloss questions. They are below, enjoy!   

What do Losing It families eat: I basically put them the Master Your Metabolism diet. Then I set the women’s calories at 1200 intake & men’s cal intake at 1600 daily. I have the guys burning 4,500 cals a day and the women burning 3,500 cals a day.

Emotional eating: Create coping mechanisms & recovery behaviors that are life affirming, not self destructive. Instead of binging join a support group, call a friend, get a massage or do something that makes you feel beautiful like a mani / pedi. Go workout. Exercise boosts your mood & put you back in the power seat. &… remove crap food from your house. No matter how bad you feel you can’t eat what isn’t there.

How do you exercise w an injury: Talk to your Dr. first, but you can work around any issue. For lower body issues try swimming, biking, elliptical, boxing. For upper body issues try jogging, stairs, biking. Start slow & build up. There are NO excuses.

Eating healthy on a budget: Try growing your own. Buying in bulk or frozen. Buy only in season. Clip coupons. Join a co-op. Do grocery shopping at online store (cheaper cause store has no store front overhead). Shop at Farmers Markets. Buy thick skin fruits & veg to avoid cost of organics. Eat less meat & do more bean & grain based meals.

How do you help people that won’t change: You can ask them leading questions about what they want. Try to get them to make the choice on their own by drawing their deeper desires out of them. However, if they still don’t respond tell them how much you love them, how you worry about them. How you will be there to help w…hen they are ready. Then focus on yourself. Often, eventually they will follow your example.

How do you stay motivated: First thing to identify is WHY you want to be motivated. What is it that you want to change and achieve. This is the thing that will help you stay the course. Write down ALL the reasons you want change in your life & make all your decisions w those goals in mind. Nothing tastes as good as living healthily & happily feels.

Hardest thing to deal with when I move in: Not being on my turf or in my comfort zone. It makes it hard to come from a position of power when you are staying in someones home. Very awkward and uncomfortable at first. I feel like an imposition – but after about the 3rd day it turns around & I make myself right at home. Literally.

What support from show does family have when I leave: I stay in touch with them along with my RD and MD. We also have a special producer assigned to the families named Kat who makes sure they are doing ok & feeling supported.

Belly Fat: Can NOT be spot reduced. This is about reducing overall body fat. Try counting cals, cutting processed foods, sleep 8 hours, reduce sodium to 1500 mg a day, up water intake to reduce bloat, hit gym hard with core based training like MMA, Power Yoga, Kettlebells.

Lots of questions about what’s in my cabinets: Let’s start with what ISN’T. No processed fake foods. No hydrogenated oils, HFC, MSG, Artificial Sweeteners. Have whole grains (beans, oatmeal, WG bread & pasta, nuts, fruits, veggies, lean proteins (tuna, eggs, yogurt).

 Getting lots of questions about weight loss plateaus: Usually it’s a result of losing track of your calorie intake. Start journaling again & be sure to have at least a 500 cal a day deficit. If that isn’t the issue it could be you are eating too little. Try upping your calories by 10% & take 2 days off to let the body rest.

According to the press release, Vampire Mob “follows Don Grigioni, a hitman and vampire, who just found out his mother-in-law is moving in, for eternity.   Don became a vampire because ‘it was a good fit’ for is nocturnal life of crime.   He never planned on biting his wife, Annie, and making her immortal, ‘but then I got hungry.’   Annie felt bad that her mom would die one day and bit her, never discussing it with Don, and now mom needs a place to stay and blood to drink.   With Don’s hit business slowing down, the last thing he needs is more ‘grocery shopping’ to do.”

Don Grigioni is played by character actor John Colella who has been seen on shows such as CSI: New York, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and The West Wing.  Reamy Hall will be playing Annie Grigioni, Don’s wife.  According to the press release “Marcia Wallace, the voice of Mrs. Krabappel on The Simpsons is the mother-in-law, Virginia Jones, and her daughter, Laura is played by Kirsten Vangsness, known for her role as Penelope Garcia on Criminal Minds.“

The series is the brain child of Joe Wilson, not Joe “You Lie” Wilson of South Carolina.   Wilson is also the writer, director and editor.  John Vargas is the assistant director, and Wilson and Colella are the producers.

There will be an passworded online premier for the show on 27 June, and a premier on the same day attended by several of the starts including Vangsness.  There will be six episodes in the first season released as each episode reaches a set count of views.

MediaTakeout.com, the world’s most popular urban website, is calling into question R&B singer Ciara’s gender. They have a picture of her where her Adam’s apple looks particularly pronounced. You can see the picture HERE; it’s probably just because she happens to be swallowing something. Contrary to popular belief, women have Adam’s apples, most women don’t have a pronounced Adam’s apple but some do, particularly very skinny women.

Ciara has experienced rumors about her gender since before Lady Gaga made potentially having a penis popular. First the rumors were that she was MTF trans and then later that she was a hermaphrodite. She added fuel to the fire with her song “Like a boy”(which is much better than Beyonce’s rip off ‘If I were a boy’) where she dressed like a boy and dances around singing about what it’s like to be a guy. She looks butchtastic while doing it too. There were also some lesbian rumors about her, but those never really materialized.

Basically, Ciara is a woman and sadly, probably straight so no controversy here. I liked her music a lot though and wish she would drop some new beats.

Miley Cyrus  appeared today in the Court of Public opinion on charges of Lap Dancing at age 16; the twits are twittering, and the video event is fast going viral, within hours of the breaking news.  But You Tube keeps taking it down.

Reluctantly viewing the video, I came to the conclusion that this was indeed NO lap dance.  I always understood a lap dance to be when the subjects include the “provocator” standing and seducing a seated “provocatee,”  with grinds and boobs and pelvis – you know what I mean.

In the video I saw, they are literally on a dance floor, with Miley gyrating rear locked for a moment into her 40 year old producer’s gyrating front.  They are standing and dancing standing upright.  Yes it is provocative; yes she was only 16;  yes it was a wrap private party; and the biggest yes of all is the simple fact that every single kewl teenager of that age does just that at any given dance party.  It is the rage!

What Miley probably did not get is the high eyebrow atthe fact that dancing in that way with a 40 year old is the ‘not business as usual.’  But then look at her world- Hollywood kewl may well be different from School kewl.

The Video keeps getting deleted off you Tube. The version I saw was on Rick Sanchez, CNN.

Former porn star Jenna Jameson was allegedly assaulted by her husband, Tito Ortiz. To recap why this is news on LGR, Jameson used to be an outspoken bisexual. She claimed she had slept with at least four women for every man she slept with, enjoyed women more and her friends thought she was really just a lesbian. She has since recanted all of those statements, but there is still a special place in my heart for Jenna for her initial courage for admitting that.

According to TMZ Tito Ortiz was arrested on felony domestic violence charges today for allegedly beating Jenna Jameson at the home they live in with their 13-month-old twin boys yesterday. Police responded around 10 a.m. to a 911 call about a “disturbance,” and officers say Jenna had “visible injuries” when they arrived. Jenna Jameson’s dad made the 911 call. As he and Jenna left the house, she said, “I’m gonna be alright. My babies are alright … everything’s OK .. he’s in jail.” Jenna also Tweeted: “I cant take any more abuse from ANYONE. To my sweet fans…thank you.” [TMZ] Jenna Jameson went to CVS and came out with a medical brace on her right arm. She told the paparazzi she’ll be pressing charges but that she still wants to work things out “for the kids sake.”

Tito’s side of the story is that Jenna Jameson is addicted to Oxycontin, and blames her drug use for the incident they had yesterday. Tito’s lawyer claims Tito “never laid a hand on Jenna.” Tito maintains that he was only trying to help her, because she had a relapse, and confronted her about the drugs he claims to have found. Tito says his parents went through addiction, and he’s “seeing a mirror of that.” Tito told reporters at a press conference: “I hold everything dear to my heart that Jenna will be OK.”

Kim often barked at Tracy in front of everyone, “God made you for me, girl!”

We’d hear Kim often say “Tracy is the most beautiful woman I have ever seen; from her head to her toes. I want to marry her!”

Kim’s pet name for Tracy was “Little Baby Girl.” Ad nauseam, Kim would brag about the great sex, “Tracy licks my box perfectly. It’s not finger lickin’ good. It’s box lickin’ good!

I witnessed Kim constantly calling and Tweeting Tracy obsessively. She was so over-jealous, always wanted to make sure Tracy was where she said she would be and not with her ex-girlfriend or another woman.

The downfall of their relationship was that Kim would not come out of the closet in fear of being cut off financially from Big Poppa. She became enraged that Tracy would not keep their relationship quiet.

It all came to a head when Kim refused to walk the red carpet with Tracy at our birthday party and it left the DJ broken-hearted.

Breaking news…Susan Powter hates fat girls. Which is surprising given her current relationship with everyone’s favorite plus sized comedian, Jessica Kirson.  Powter has even gone on the record as saying that she doesn’t project her fitness happy lifestyle onto her partner, she just let’s her make her own choices.

In case you don’t know who Susan Powter is, she had a tv show for one season in 1994, based on health and wellness. In 2007, she starting blogging about fitness and wellness online. Her website consists of recipes, poems, fitness tips and home movies. Powter recently went on a tirade against Oscar winner Gabourey Sidibe, in a lovely titled movie called, “Fuck the Right to Fat Girls.” Watch the hatefest below:

The video tears into Gaby for being overweight. Susan says that being overweight will kill Gaby’s career and that Gaby is also doing herself a disservice for being fat and that 85% of diseases come from being overweight. She also endorses the hateful names Howard Stern called Gaby.

First of all, as a lesbian, I cannot stand another lesbian endorsing Howard Stern’s dismissal of Gaby. Howard Stern is basically saying that if a woman is not attractive, she has no worth in our society. These sentiments are constantly echoed in the media. It’s not good for woman to have to torture themselves to fit such a ridiculous mold. I reject it. I may not be the hottest girl in the room, but I have something to say and I know how to say it. I have more to offer the world than beauty and so does every woman out there, even if she doesn’t know it. Ps. Susan, you’re fugly. Pug fugly, so you aren’t worth anything to Howard Stern either. He would slam your self-proclaimed “radical lesbian” ass to the curb.

Second of all, 85%? You can’t make up a figure and say it’s fact. Should Gaby lose a few pounds for health reasons? Probably. But that’s really no reason to hate anyone. Much less to “fuck” their rights as women of size.

Susan also mentions a time where she was“260 pounds, nothing looked good nothing felt good. “ Project your insecurities much, Susan? Gaby looked beautiful in her Oscar dress. And you know what makes her even more attractive? Her sense of humor and her amazing talent as an actress.  

Is being fat going to hinder Gaby’s career? Yes. It will make it much harder for her. If she had Kate Hudson’s body, she would be much more likely to be offered the kind of humorous roles that she deserves. But being African-American makes it harder too. Tasha Smith (Why Did I Get Married) is one of the funniest actresses in Hollywood, her body is tight and her humor is awesome. Will she ever achieve the type of fame that Katherine Heigl has? Nope and she is a hell of a lot funnier. Is Susan advocating Gaby pulling a Michael Jackson (too soon?) and dying her skin white? Being a lesbian makes it much harder to gain celebrity too, should Susan become straight? But Susan was really big in the 90s right? Oh right, that was because she was passing. She pretended to be straight, or at least, didn’t tell anyone she was a lesbian while she was still a relevant figure. That’s no way to live life. I would rather be fat than in the closet.

In a daring move by Microsoft, Xbox 360 players will now be able to utilize gamertags Lesbian, Gay, Transgender, Bi and Straight in their profiles. Xbox Live boss, Marc Whitten announced on the official site:

“I’d like to announce an update to the Xbox LIVE Terms of Use and Code of Conduct which will allow our members to more freely express their race, nationality, religion and sexual orientation in Gamertags and profiles. Under our previous policy, some of these expressions of self-identification were not allowed in Gamertags or profiles to prevent the use of these terms as insults or slurs. However we have since heard feedback from our customers that while the spirit of this approach was genuine, it inadvertently excluded a part of our Xbox LIVE community.”

This was a very sensitive subject for Microsoft, who wanted to allow gamers to express their relationship orientation in a way that wouldn’t make anyone (gay or straight) uncomfortable. Microsoft collaborated with GLAAD and with their internal network of LGBT employees to ensure that the new system would be acceptable for all parties.  

Another Xbox Live policy boss, Stephen Toulouse, announced the change via his twitter account:

“Expression of relationship orientation ok in Gamertags and Profiles on Xbox LIVE. Special thanks to GLAAD and Microsoft’s LGBT community for guidance on the terms.”

There have been some gamers that have expressed discontent with this change, stating that they just want to game and not know about sexual orientation or that gay is often used as an insult online and that’s the only place for this word in gaming. This is blatantly untrue. While it is true that some gamers only form superficial ties to the online gaming community, for many players, the game is an extention of their social circle. Despite the negative commenters, this is an exciting day for LGBT gamers who are looking to connect with other members of their community online.

Perez Hilton, the celebrity blogger, constantly contradicts himself. He claims that he is doing everything he can to support the LGBT community. But you can find him forcibly outing gay celebrities and calling straight cheesy rappers (Sorry Will.i.am) fags. You can also find him on the cover of gay mags, the Advocate and Out.

In his latest thoughtless move, Hilton has chosen to hate on Ellen DeGeneres. The post starts with a picture of Ellen and Portia, Portia is wearing a dress so he has a “greater than” sign pointing to the dress. Because femme lesbians are cuter than butch ones? Great message to send to his extensive readership. Dresses on lesbians aren’t better than suits on lesbians. Women can rock a butch look still look hotter than a straight woman in a dress and heels. Hilton then calls Ellen a diva for asking for a 150,000 dollar wardrobe budget, despite the fact that Paula Abdul probably had a larger one. He then tells her that it’s ok if Abdul gets a larger wardrobe budget, because women who wear dresses and skirts need more money than women who wear pantsuits. This is ridiculous. I don’t know why Hilton feels the need to hate on women who don’t like to wear dresses, but despite his self proclaimed “gay activism” he has chosen this route.

Hilton also adds a qualifer to the statement, as if that would make it ok. “Not to belittle your style…” It’s too late Perez, you have already belittled her style and the style of every woman (gay or straight) who chooses not to wear dresses. Ellen looks great. She is a hot sexy butch woman and I’m sure that Portia De Rossi would give you an earful for suggesting that she is “greater than” Ellen because she wears the dress in the relationship. Straight men and women read your blog and if you send the message that all women, gay or straight, need to dress like femme barbies, they will listen to you and follow your example. Grow up buddy. Decide if you are a LGBT activist or not.

You’d think Simon Cowell – and you’d be wrong.

Actually, funny gal Ellen DeGeneres is the one making herself right at home at the Idol stage and has started making outrageous demands. Sources on American Idol suggest that Ellen has insisted that she get a $150,00 clothing allowance for custom-made clothing while she is on the show.

But will the Idol bosses foot that bill?

The sources says she won’t be taking no for an answer: “Ellen feels it’s only fair because Paula received a hefty allowance for hair, makeup and wardrobe.”

Yes, but Paula wore more than just a pant suit every week. Not to belittle your style, girl, but this seems a little extreme

In June of 2009 Liborio Molina, the tour manager of the Black Eyed Peas punched celebrity blogger Perez Hilton in the face outside an LA nightclub. Hilton admitted to calling Black Eyed Peas member will.i.am a faggot. Molina has personally apologized to Hilton for the punch and Hilton has apologized to the LGBT community for the use of the slur. Which was surprising at the time, and still is, considering that Hilton is out and frequently outs closeted celebrities in the name of gay visibility. Today, a judge is dismissed a civil lawsuit filed against Molina by Hilton.

Attorneys for Hilton and Peas’ manager Liborio Molina announced in court Tuesday they had reached a settlement agreement without the courts involvement. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge John S. Wiley agreed to dismiss the case but retained jurisdiction in case the settlement doesn’t go as planned.

The terms of the settlement have not been made public and neither attorney has commented.

Recently, Nick’s Parent’s Connect hosted the 2009 Parents’ Picks Awards, which gave parents from all over the country a chance to vote for their “favorite local family-friendly places”.

The ad buy was not active yet but I did preview the ads. They were gray and red with the slogan “We’re all about great relationships” or “Ready to start a great relationship?” plus the tag “Serious relationships for the gay and lesbian community.”

They are advertising free 6 month memberships for a limited time.

The ad network these ads originate from is the Gay Ad Network, and it is unclear at this time whether Compatible Partners plans to actually activate their campaign or not. I have yet to see these ads on another gay or lesbian website, but will most likely deny the ad buy for this site when it becomes active.
