Six years after its founding, the WHCA held a dinner. Calvin Coolidge was the first President who attended, in 1924. Since then, it has become customary for the President and Vice-President to attend with their wives. The WHCA dinner is held the last Saturday in April at the Washington Hilton Hotel, which was built in 1965 and hosts the National Prayer Breakfast among other large events.

Originally, the dinners featured singers between courses and an hour-long post-dinner show with headliners. But in the past couple of decades, the principle performer has been a comedian, and the show has evolved into a roast of the President, and the President has joined in the fun. This is a showcase for the White House writing staff as much as anything else.

It is fun, a lot of fun as long as something horrific hasn’t just happened like the Oklahoma City bombing. Last year, President Obama introduced his “official birth video,” and showed the birth sequence from “The Lion King,” quipping that Disney had the long form. Donald Trump, who was making waves with birther nonsense, was in the audience. The most famous bit by President George W. Bush was him in a side-by-side video of him finally properly pronouncing the words “nuclear proliferation.” I’m expecting someone, maybe the President himself, to ridicule the outrage heaped on this week by the right wing because Obama is “cool.”

The dinner is attended by journalists, celebrities (Lindsay Lohan will be there) and politicians. News organizations invite celebrities, so Politico is bringing Charlize Theron, Bloomberg (News, not Mayor) has Zooey Deschanel and Fox News is bring Kim Kardashian again, which says a whole lot about Fox (trash attracts trash perhaps?). The incredibly long list of celebrities includes George Clooney, Steven Spielberg, Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks (love her in Slither), Reese Witherspoon, Daniel Day-Lewis (is he still an A-lister?), Martha Stewart (the Hilton staff better be warned), Diane Keaton, Rashida Jones, John Legend, the cast of Modern Family, Stevie Wonder, Pierce Brosnan, Kate Hudson and Mommy Goldie Hawn (step-Daddy Kurt Russell is an avowed libertarian), Claire Danes, Josh Hutcherson, Rachel Zoe, Ivanka Trump (the model daughter, not the ex-wife), Mary J. Blige, Kelly Ripa and Uggie the dog from The Artist.

The dinner is tomorrow night. C-SPAN will be broadcasting the entire event live, including what passes for a red carpet at this event, running from 6:30 p.m. Eastern time and running to approximately 11:15. MSNBC’s coverage will start around 9:30. They will be skipping the preliminaries and just covering the roast. You can also expect highlights to show up on the cable news networks on Sunday morning, or log on to MSNBC anytime after 1 a.m. Sunday to watch. Then, on Monday, Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert, who hosted it once, will have their shot at it.

The dinner is also a fundraiser, but not for politicians.  The money raised goes to various charities to aid journalism students.

San Francisco, CA – With a more than 300% increase in voting turnout this year, the San Francisco Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Pride Committee is pleased to present their 2011 Grand Marshals. Debuting their new online voting system back on March 26th, SF Pride saw an early and dramatic increase in total votes cast. Over the next fifteen days, 2,736 people made their choices known, surpassing a previous high count by more than 500 ballots cast.

The combined votes of the General Membership, Board of Directors, SF Pride Electoral College, and the community at large have elected the following:

Community Grand Marshals: Dr. Aaron Belkin (SFSU professor and key advocate for the repeal of DADT), Victoria Kolakowski (first openly elected transgender Superior Court judge), Christiana Remington (community activist and event producer), Terry Stewart (defense attorney, challenger of Prop. 8), Rev. Roland Stringfellow (builder of relationships between the LGBT and religious communities), and Graylin K. Thornton (Leather Community activist and past-board member for New Leaf Services).

Honorary Grand Marshals: Susie Bright (editor of first women’s magazine: On Our Backs, sexologist, activist), and Ron Wong (API activist, past-board member for SF Pride).

In a vote so close that there was just a 6-point lead, the vote for Local Organizational Grand Marshal goes to the GLBT Historical Society and History Museum.

In addition to the above, Bishop Yvette Flunder has been selected as the Lifetime Achievement Grand Marshal, and The Trevor Project has been named as the National Organizational Grand Marshal. A contingent of folks from The Trevor Project, the It Gets Better Project, and various other anti-bullying and anti-suicide organizations have been invited to lead off the 2011 Parade, behind the Dykes on Bikes contingent. This honor is given to a different faction or vital issue of the community each year.

When learning the news, Bishop Flunder commented, “As a native San Franciscan and an out leader in the faith community, I am honored and humbled to be recognized as the Lifetime Achievement Grand Marshal by my own community.“

Celebrity Grand Marshals confirmed to date are Chaz Bono, Olympia Dukakis, and Yigit Pura.

Finally, the Pink Brick Award Recipient — the one person who has done the most damage to the LGBT community and/or movement — is Lou Engle.

That was the underlying message of the week as, upon my return to the land of my birth, I stood on two stages, hoping to deliver a simple message:- You have an awesome Constitution South Africa, more inclusive than that of the United States of America, where Federal law bars same-gender marriage; however what good is it unless you live it.  You must turn your accomplishment into an achievement and you will only do that when you truly step up from the charcoals of oppression and understand your Constitutional rights, and assert them with the vigor that post Apartheid South Africa deserves.

Homosexuality is a birthright – citizenship is a birthright – love is a birthright – you are a birthright. Now Live it.

South Africa must embrace its Constitution on three frontiers:

At home in South Africa from Village to City to the steps of the Courts and Parliament – ensure that your rights are valued – speak up in large crowds – reform and educate that rape against women is a rape against your Constitution; (Amongst many other issues)

In Africa as a leading power – standing by your principles of all inclusiveness – be a light to Africa not only with your money and resources but with your hard learned principles, born from a struggle so profound – and do not be duped by those (UGANDA and the others) who say “do not interfere with our right to create sovereign laws such as criminalization and death penalties for homosexuality – because the rest of the world was not duped by the excuses for apartheid. Recall Ambassador Jon Qwelane from Uganda, he casts shame on the Constitution of South Africa through his lack of respect for it; and stop investing in Museveni until he directs his parliament to stop legislation that is un-African, discriminatory and fails to separate Church from State.

In the World -  When your house is on order – and you have truly swept out the last of the cobwebs of discrimination – the one that hides like a sleeping snake behind the excuse of ‘Africanism’ – go out to the rest of the World and say “look where we were thirty years ago – and look where we are today – we are a true Rainbow Nation – and you can come visit me in San Francisco and all my brothers and sisters and everyone in between and you can scream at us – “Republican Party – why do you fall behind South Africa – why dis you help us end apartheid and now you fail your own people – those who until they can marry and receive all federal benefits – are second class citizens – just the way we used to be?   US Congress, President Obama,  we are leaders in the world on LGBT rights and we are asking you to repeal DOMA now.

Pride, Cape Town, is more than just a party and when you yelled back and stood up today – I realized that you are ready to fight here for the rights you already own – and for the rights of all in Africa who suffer the hardship of hate and criminalization.

Thank you South Africa for teaching me, Cape Town Pride for inviting me, British Airways for getting me here and home again and to Cape Royale hotel and Victoria Junction.

Cape Town is a fantastic destination for Pride – Lets get the rest of the World here next year – watch out Sydney and San Francisco!

As untraditional as it gets, 33-year-old out lesbian Rocha has been making headlines for being the first gay REAL housewife.

Rocha already took shots at Kim Zolciak and Danielle Staub, saying they were experiencing a “faux lesbian experimental stage. I’m the real thing.” Indeed, Fernando is the REAL deal and redefining what it means to be a HOUSEWIFE!

—The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) is proud to announce that it has been selected as the sole beneficiary of this year’s Linashore Golf Classic, the renowned women’s charity golf tournament held during the Dinah Shore weekend.

Now in its 23rd year, Linashore—set for April 1-2, 2011—is one of the most popular events held during Dinah Shore, which each year lures hundreds of thousands of lesbians and bisexual women to Palm Springs, CA for a series of parties and social events.

This year’s Linashore is shaping up to be the best yet, with a number of events surrounding the golf classic—including a special dinner and dance—benefiting NCLR, a national legal nonprofit devoted to advancing lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender equality through litigation, public policy, and public education.

Since its start in 1977, NCLR—which helps more than 5,000 people each year—has embraced every aspect of the diverse LGBT community through its work, recognizing that the community comes from many different backgrounds and faces a wide range of issues. NCLR has always been on the cutting edge of legal and social issues, and was the first legal organization to create permanent projects for same-sex binational couples, LGBT asylum seekers, LGBT elders, transgender people, LGBT farmworkers, LGBT youth, low-income LGBT people seeking services from legal aid organizations, and LGBT athletes and coaches.

“We’re honored that Linashore selected NCLR and our life- and law-changing work as this year’s beneficiary,” said NCLR Executive Director Kate Kendell, who will be the guest of honor at the golf classic and will also deliver special speeches at a luncheon and dinner. “This is a great opportunity for folks to take part in an incredible series of fun events, while helping our work that impacts the lives of their friends, their families, their loved ones, and all members of our LGBT community.”

Caroline “Lina” Haines, founder and organizer of the Linashore Golf Classic, “chose NCLR as the beneficiary because it has been an unwavering advocate for women and LGBT people for 34 years, often the first to stand up for justice, and work alongside our community in a relentless pursuit of equality. It’s a privilege to be able to recognize such a worthy cause that has a national impact, helping anyone, anywhere.”

Other special guests at the Linashore Dinner Dance include the legendary Rosie Jones, who, before retiring, was the only openly lesbian golfer in the LPGA. After retiring, Jones worked for the Golf Channel and forged a new path for women in sports broadcasting as one of very few women in the industry.

The party begins Friday evening with a Vallarta Girl Welcome Dinner at El Arrayan, Puerto Vallarta’s #1 Mexican restaurant owned by Carmen Porras and her partner Claudia, with dinner and entertainment, followed by the Pink Party.

Vallarta Girl will revel in a multitude of talent, crammed into three days –   celebrity hosts Rose, Natalie, and Whitney from Showtime’s hit reality show The Real L Word, plus top notch talent including world renowned DJ Kimberly S., known for spinning Girl Bar Dinah Shore Weekend & White Party in Palm Springs, Aqua Girl in Miami, Two Queens Party in Singapore, and Black Cherry in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Also the sexy DJ Lezlee, who spins the tunes at Kyss Here Lounge Thursdays, The Catwalk, The Push Party Saturdays in Los Angeles, plus mega clubs Tao, Lavo, Marquee, and Voodoo Lounge in Las Vegas, and Club Skirts’ The Dinah in Palm Springs.

LezGetReal’s Melanie Nathan interviewed Kimberley S, Circuit DJ phenomenon and martial arts expert, and  about the event and her meteoric rise to the top of the DJ pack,  “I’m strong, I’m hot and I can spin my ass off,” asserts the super-DJ.

Kimberley has built a legions of fans – to include a bevy of some of Hollywood’s best known celebrities.  Each week, thousands of Kimberly S. enthusiasts converge to hear the black belt karate expert play at venues across America. Specializing in in soulful house, pulsing tribal beats, trance and vocal club anthems, she wants to meet her lez fans old and new, cub and cougar,  in Peurto Vallarta, to celebrate the best in Mix, House and dance.  “I am a lover of house music in its purest form,” she explains. “House and Dance integrates all different genres into its flow, and as a result, it enables people to feel an array of different emotions: joy, love, nostalgia, inhibition, passion… I want my sets to serve it all to my fans on the dance floor.”

She is also noted for her exceptional mixing skills and superior set programming and credits her martial arts experience with giving her the discipline to succeed as a DJ.

Kimberly’s  “big break” came when she was the headlining DJ at Girlbar in Los Angeles, where she met Jeffrey Sanker, the Steve Rubell of west coast gay nightlife. Jeffrey recruited Kimberly for Factory, LA’s largest gay disco, where she co-headlined “Factory Saturdays”, the clubs most popular night. She played the Ultra Suede room – a room in the back of the club that was smaller than the main floor. The main floor was reserved for the celebrity guest “circuit” DJ that had been flown in, usually from NYC where most of the national DJs at the time resided. Oddly, the main room always closed early because Kimberly would draw everyone to the back.

This lez DJ is known for giving her male counterparts a ‘run for their money’ proving that she is able to spin amongst the best, whether a straight or gay venue.

Today, Kimberly performs at some of the nation’s biggest parties including New Orleans’ Mardi Gras, One Mighty Party in Orlando, Miami’s Winter Party and Chicago’s Fireball. Most recently, she has concentrated on international headlining appearances including Circuit Asia in Manila, Philippines (2004 and 2005), Snowball in Taipei (2005), Song Kran II in Bangkok (2008), and many performances in Brazil and Mexico. In 2009 and 2010, Kimberly took on Asia with her highly acclaimed “Dharmanation Tour”, which landed her in Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Singapore and Jakarta, Indonesia.  It may sound ambitious, but Kimberly believes it’s important that people set goals for themselves. “It’s the best way to get what you want out of life – and it really works!”

The Vallarta Girl   includes Parties on Saturday, Jandy Cheeks Beach Party on Los Muertos Beach, a sail away with an open bar and music on the Chicas To The Wind Booze Cruise down the beautiful Banderas Bay coast.    Vallarta’s famous nightlife will be an option with Saturday night at the Chicas Chicas dance party. San Francisco.  There was nothing small about Chrissie Hynde‘s club-set  performance at  San Francisco’s Bimbos,  Saturday night. A great show, starting moments after the GIANTS beat the Phillies to make it to the World Series, provided the perfect backdrop. The exuberant crowd rocked regardless of  Chrissie’s unexpected fearless “I hate sports” comment.

The previously Pretenders star fronted with ex-beau JP, a magnificent collaboration of hot dynamic energy, without compromise; still the Chrissie effect a flawless brand of her own, despite the newish venture.

Chrissie,  JP Jones with the Fairground Boys  playing a 70-minute,  mostly from their “Fidelity!” album, which chronicles their romance, and their choice to end it;  JP wants a family; she’s “past her prime.” The music — their fruit!

Without infringing on the integrity of a large showcase rocker, being in the audience of  Chrissie Hynde playing a small club, in collaboration with the talent of  an extraordinarily tight  group of  musicians, a unique intimacy, was an absolute treat.

At the concert, Mark Pressler concurs: “Chrissie has sold millions of albums and you never would have known it last night.  Its interesting that she got her start with The Pretenders in England before making it in the US and JP Jones is Welsh, yet they have a great sensibility of American rock music.”

All guitar presenting as one sound- astounding rhythms with complex bass lines and the “drummer kept the bottom and propelled the band beautifully.  The lead guitar player performed some sublime solos leading the band in jams that reeled the abiding audience in.  Pressler appreciated “Their cover of a Mobey Grape song in in encore was a nice tribute to playing in SF and also sounded like a new song.”

With seventies to eighties flavorful flair we were nonetheless well in the Now!

NYC LGBT bar Cubbyhole is fundraising for “Braking the Cycle” tonight. Braking the Cycle is a three day bike ride to raise awareness and money for AIDS. The three day event starts in Boston and ends in New York City. The charity event has already scored some major sponsors, including Google and the yummy Brooklyn Brewery.

Don’t have three days to take off and bike ride for AIDS? That’s fine, because you can just head over to Cubbyhole tonight and do your part! There will be drink specials, music, raffles, and (hopefully) dancing. All in support and celebration of the work of BRAKING THE CYCLE!

San Francisco: Breaking – For the past 15 years openly gay, renowned DJ, radio host, and creator of San Francisco’s longest running global dance radio show “House Nation, who goes by the name St John, has been a feature, honing his iconic talent and superstar ACT at the annual San Francisco LGBT Pride.

But this year something smells a little off.  Sources inform us, that the event which would usually pride itself on tradition has succumbed to the demands of one of its  corporate sponsors, CLEAR CHANNEL.   Clear Chanel (yes the very clear channel, air-wave home to Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck,) and a major SF Pride 2010 sponsor has demanded the banning of ST. John and two other well known GAY Morning DJ’s; all three axed, shunned and rejected despite their years of entrenched relationship with the event.

St. John, described as  Superstar in the growing world of  mix was extremely popular at Clear Channel’s Wild 94.9 for 14 years, and then moved to CBS’s. Movin’ 99.7, KMVQ-FM.

St. John’s energetic style has made him a staple internationally from Brazil to Canada, and nation-wide from New York’s Limelight to San Francisco’s Ruby Skye. With multiple CD releases on major labels such as Thrive and UBL Recordings, St. John has sold over a quarter-million albums and in 2010 continues to work on exciting new projects.

The exclusion may be attributed to corporate wrangling and competitive venom between CBS and Clear Channel. Yet on wonders just how San Francisco pride fits into this mix of loyalty gone awry?

Since it was not only St John who made the move, but also other DJ’s and Michael Martin, once Program Director for Clear Channel and now Vice President of Programming for CBS RADIO San Francisco. The retribution could also be attributed to Martin who did not hide his excitement when St John left  Clear Channel to join CBS: “I am beyond excited to have him join MOViN!  His skill, passion, precision and drive to win are an inspiration to all who work with him and the detriment to those who try to compete against him,” said Martin.

Should we as a marginalized and discriminated against community stand behind our heroes? Or should we accept demanding sponsors who are giving SF Pride the profits off the  millions made and paid to the likes of homophobic and anti American  Limbaugh and Beck.

For St. John the feelings were mutual when he joined CBS; – “I’m thrilled to be reunited with programming legend Michael Martin. Together we’ve dominated ratings in both the Bay Area and Los Angeles and when St John moved asserted: “I can’t wait to work with him to do it again at my new home CBS RADIO San Francisco.”

Each year, Pride works with the event media partners, such as Clear Channel home to the likes of right wing lunatics – Limbaugh and Beck, to bring a televised and  radio broadcasts of the SF Pride Parade. SF Pride producers assert that they have been able to expand the coverage of the Parade to include a full-length, unedited online broadcast in addition to televised coverage the evening following the Parade’s conclusion.

Since St. John left clear channel, it is became apparent that punitive motives would follow the star, and that attempts would  be made to relegate his well earned reverence in the world of cool music and especially his vested platform at PRIDE.

St. John, clearly hurt by San Francisco Pride’s rejection of his talent, and his years of service was loathe to make any derogatory remarks at all either toward SF Pride or Clear Channel.

From my interview it was clear that not only is St John a good man, he is modest and is not willing to speak of  the enormous contributions he has made to fighting HIV/AIDS and helping those in need.

In furthering his career he is now being punished by his own community.  Not only is he a talent but he is an open voice to tens and thousands of a younger generation who hold him in the highest esteem, reaching across the gay- straight lines amongst the youngsters, where it really counts.

When asked for his comments  he told me: “Its been a long  journey with San Francisco Pride; I am proud  to have  been  apart of a great service to the community and hope that maybe I can find a way to continue to be so.”

I will say one thing and that is if Clear Channel tried to impose a ban on any gay performer of any kind with a history and credentials such as ST, John, I for one would rather risk their sponsorship!

It was (of course in those almost youthful years) the party highlight  of my life, and so I made the pilgrimage for some years thereafter.   Recently I interviewed  Mariah Hanson an old friend from those days and was delighted to acknowledge her 20th anniversary in Palm Springs with The Dinah’s exciting events for this year – It Starts today.   HELLO GALS!

For the next few days we will be sharing highlights and fun from Palm Springs – if you have never been – go – next year – never before have you seen or will you ever see so many lesbians in one place. Its an amazing experience especially for those who are coming out and wonder of this is a worthy world.

Campbell Brown‘s show on CNN featured a  brave young woman.  Coming out at 18 can be quite a call, one has parents to deal with who may not have such an easy time with the idea.    Having the courage to take your lesbian girlfriend to the Prom is yet another act of bravery, then when the PROM is canceled for all and one must face one’s school friends and peers – well that is yet another courageous event- however what could be more commendable than the 18 year old standing up for her rights on national TV?

Well that is what we saw this evening; the astounding resolve and confidence  of a young lesbian teen who willingly speaks for  her values and beliefs – she represents her most important value- simply “to be herself,”   as she told CNN. She is proud to be herself.  Such acceptance must start at home with Parents. This may be a lesson for all.  Truth iught never be feared.

This is a future leader and a poster person for equality.  Young and assured, our new-found hero, young Ms. Constance McMillen,  is presented by Lezgetreal as our current HERO and Lesbian of the Month.

Today Lezgetreal reached out personally by telephone and in a Blog / News Post to a variety of celebrities with the idea to host a PROM for all the Teens impacted by the cancellation by the Itawamba County Agricultural High School in Fulton, Mississippi.

This Grand Prix of Lesbian action gets the checkered flag, yet again.  Mariah Hanson has succeed in  another exclusive –line up,  adding today’s  announcement today of  one time reunion  Salt-n-Peppa  and Spinerella.

Twenty years ago, I was one lipstick-lesbian who gratefully swirled to the ecstatic innovations of Mariah, a  pioneer in the development of the Dinah Shore Golf Classic Party-side event.  Now with an absolute “hail Mariah,” I look back and note the consistency and tireless dedication to our community for years of ‘right-on-ness, ‘ earning Mariah the coveted title of  “THE Dinah!”

Mariah and I spoke last month and I was amazed at how her energetic passion has maintained its proactive state of creativity.

Commemorating its landmark 20^th Anniversary, The Dinah 2010 will take place March 31 through April 4, 2010 at The Hilton Hotel, The Hyatt Regency and the Palm Springs Convention Center. Despite the current economic climate, ticket sales are up from last year and the Hilton Hotel sold out in record time over the holidays. The newly renovated high-end Hyatt Regency is almost at capacity.

Hamburger Mary’s is a popular restaurant in the gay community and the Long Beach, CA location is at a prime spot on Alamitos and Broadway. The parking is a bit tight, but inside Hamburger Mary’s you’ll find a dancefloor, bar, pool table and outside patio with flat screens placed througout; which turn the restaurant into a night-time hotspot for locals in the LGBT community certain nights of the week. Suprisingly, many of the people who participated in the call to action to come down and sign the petition in Long Beach were pleasantly suprised to find the doors open and our team waiting for them.

Some petition signers enjoyed lunch, others had a drink, some played pool, and others mingled.

My wife and I were on the outdoor patio, sprinkled with friends and family who dropped by throughout the day. We made a few new friends, and put up with a few attitudes, but overall it was a pleasant event and the staff at Hamburger Mary’s was friendly and accomodating; making sure to sign our petition as well. Talking with the owner of the Long Beach Hamburger Mary’s I found that he is also the owner of the West Hollywood location, and he recently took over the Long Beach location, bringing some WeHo flair to the LBC.

The previous owners of the Long Beach location had a different vision, and Hamburger Mary’s LB was a thing of the past for a short time. The new owner is bringing a different spin and new vision to the restaurant, introducing weekly events such as Karaoke with the legendary Jackie Beat on Tuesdays, brunch on Saturday and Sunday, and Little Lambs Day on Mondays when kids eat for FREE. The food is fresh, fabulous, and satisfying; and come to find out Hamburger Mary’s is a regular supporter of the HRC. This means that spending your Pink Money at the Long Beach and West Hollywood Hamburger Mary’s supports equality! Of course you know that I am liking that! Plus the bar staff was extra sweet and made sure to card me when I ordered a drink so if you’re looking for an ego-boost here’s your chance, LOL.

I wanted to “call in gay” but I was out of sick days and instead I planned ahead and switched my days to make sure I had it off. Does that make me a cheater? The whole concept of the day was amazing and it even made people aware that we had a Human Rights Day. I did my fair share of promoting online and word of mouth. I told my whole family that I wasn’t going to work because I was calling in gay and most of my family knew what it was.

On Wednesday, I stayed home for most of the day until I picked up my nieces from school and took them to the mall, where I did window shopping. I wore my Curve Magazine t-shirt and got several glances =). After the mall, I dropped off my nieces at their house and then headed home to get ready for a NO On H8 Benefit for Equality California.

It was my first time attending The Ian Harvie Show and it was unlike anything I’ve ever been to. It was totally unique and hilarious! My friends and I had such a great time, we literally laughed out loud. Always queer, authentic, funny, and entertaining (show’s motto) was true indeed. There were a couple of stand-up sets (Erin Foley made my heart melt), music performances, monologues, and group discussions. It was like a mini queer comic conference.

The topic of the discussion was to share a holiday experience, some good holiday cheer, you know? But it was like all the stories came from a John Waters film. This wasn’t your normal decorating the tree/baking cookies story….there was piss…blood….shit…and cock. For some reason cock seemed to be the main topic. No matter how the conversation was flowing, it always ended up back at cock. Erin Foley was so cute throwing little holiday references out to distract everyone from their cock stories.

The set ended with Margaret Cho singing a couple of songs and impressing the audience with her recently learned, 3 weeks, guitar playing. That deserved a standing ovation. She could’ve had me fooled the way she was strumming those chords. When I fist learned how to play, it was always difficult to play and sing at the same time but Margaret honestly performed her songs flawlessly. The Protest Song (Morman) was the shout out for Proposition H8: “SHOVE PROPOSITION 8 UP THEIR ASS!”

After the show, I got to speak with Margaret Cho and she saw that I was wearing a Tegan & Sara button and she told me that she is working on a music album and that T&S were going to record a song with her. That is beyond amazing! I told her that I was looking forward to that and I also mentioned how much I thought she rocked.

Most of my friends are out partying it up this weekend, but I am home tonight getting ready for a night out with my wife tomorrow. I love to get dressed up and go out dancing after dinner and some drinks. My wife knows all the good spots and usually chooses where we go, and over the years I have developed my favorites.

Since I live in Southern California, there are a few gay clubs and lesbian bars in my area, and the closest spot to me that I like is The Executive Suite in Long Beach (website). This is a longtime favorite spot for a Saturday night, and for the LGBT community to get together and party before and after the Long Beach Gay Pride Festival.

I also like Club Ripples which has two different dance floors and a karaoke area for those that are interested in showing their vocal talents(website). I prefer Friday nights at Club Ripples which is referred to as Debra’s @ The Beach. Check out Debra’s MySpace page here for pics.

If we just want to have a drink and play some pool, then we head on over to Club Broadway (link). We used to like to go to Hamburger Mary’s in Long Beach because it was right next to Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles which is always good at 2am when you’ve had a bit to drink. There is a Hamburger Mary’s in West Hollywood (link) that you could check out, which offers more entertainment and food choices.

Also out in Los Angeles and Hollywood area is The Palms Bar which has a nice size dance floor and friendly bartenders (website). The Palms is also located right near a secure parking garage which is good. We have fun at Girl Bar and have also been over to Circus Disco, but they do play a lot of club music and I am more of a hip hop fan.

My favorite spot is on Tuesdays and whenever my wife and I can get away on a Tuesday this is a guilty pleasure of ours. Michelle’s XXX, also known as Peanuts, is a sexy spot for lesbians to dance, drink, and watch Michelle’s girls put on a great show. If you’ve never been to Michelle’s XXX, you really don’t know what you’re missing. All I can say is that the ladies at Michelle’s XXX leave visions in your mind you will cherish forever. *wink* Michelle’s XXX also hosts the LA Gay Pride After Party so be sure to check out their website if you are heading out to that this weekend. You can also find Michelle’s XXX on MySpace here. Michelle’s XXX does offer Club Sexy on Saturdays every so often, so be sure to add yourself to their mailing list if that is something are interested in.
