I choose to support “leadership” and the values in a person holds dear, even when I don’t know everything about that person or if I agree with them. I form an opinion based on the consistency and balance of the facts. I think Mr Babeu is wrestling with a difficult issue or issues. I think that Mr Jose (?) deserves respect also. Human, Sex, and Drug trafficing are all crimes that we all must take up a stand against (and take action to stop). By putting on trial in the press Mr Babeu’s personal issues, we may not be serving ourselves in our communities very well. Civilization may end up being impaired.

Yes, I have a slanted viewpoint, perhaps. I was a US Marine office, and I am gay, father of two, and live in Mexico proudly … because I don’t want my partner/lover to be subject to potential abuse in the USA. I believe that I am probably no different from other people who simply try to live life simply, without harm to others, and with respect for those who are as much a gift from God as I am, or my family is. I also want to support LEADERSHIP (Mr Babeu in this case) in all its manifestations even if I disagree with some of their opinions or personal events. But I ask for respect in return, not to judge me too quickly, either. Humanity is a journey, it is not my only destination. I recommend that the parties, each live each moment as such.

Whenever you see a story regarding violence by a custodial father against the kids, it should AUTOMATICALLY raise questions as to what happened to the mother, and whether there was a history of domestic violence.

What you are dealing with is an historian and writer. Prior to 1967, traditional marriage was taken to be between people of the same race, and laws existed banning interracial marriage in the majority of American states. Traditional marriage up until recently also allowed men to beat or kill their wives without cause or reason given. At one time, it was believed that marriage between people of different faiths was an abomination unto the Lord. You keep going back and marriage has been redefined continuously over the last four or five thousand years.

What is more, cultures and current scientific research have shown that having a mother and a father is not necessarily important to have healthy child. There are cultures where same-sex couples could marry, could have families, and raised children that were healthy for their cultures. There are polygamous families that raise children that are healthy for their cultures.

What you show is that you are not only an ethnocentrist, but a misogynist and ignorant.

Incidentally, I am a very religious person. It just happens that my religion is not yours. What you are trying to do is restrict my religious practice by imposing upon me your religious beliefs- beliefs I might ad you do not seem inclined to practice very well, nor actually understand.

Finally, while the Black Civil and Political Rights Movement of the 1950′s and 1960′s was far more complex and had far more layers than the current LGBT Civil Rights Movement, there are many similarities. You really should learn your history.

Violence is best. We’ve tried the non-violent protest since Reagan/Bush was elected and it accomplished NOTHING! If anything it emboldened the Republicans/ Conservatives to push the limits of their fraud, corruption, incompetence, low grade thought processes, etc… knowing full well Democrats/Liberals would do little to fight back. It was like an inside joke: “oh look the Liberals are having another peaceful protest march, ohhhhhh we’re so scared…”

Finally, Millions of Concerned Citizens, with the help of cutting edge boat-rockers, have come to save the day. The Occupy Wall Street movement was an excellent start but now it’s time to plan seriously. The “American Spring” is the storm on the horizon for Republican/Conservatives whether they know it or not.

Keep on talking Conservatives, give the monkey’s enough rope they’re going to hang themselves… Every year I think the Conservatives couldn’t do, say or act any worse than the year before. CPAC? An American majority that is already very, VERY angry at Conservatives for the Bush/Cheney catastrophe. My mother, who was raised a very good Catholic, didn’t know that. She and my father chose to practice birth control rather than have a slew of kids they couldn’t afford to take care of properly. Mom took us to church when we were little, but when my oldest sister was old enough to herd us younger two, Mom stopped going in with us. She “knew” she was a willful sinner, practicing birth control, and that according to the way she was raised, if you know you’re going to repeat the sin, you’re not absolved and cannot receive Communion. She respected the Church; she never returned to it. Those stupid papal bulls cut her off from the solace of her faith for her entire adult life.

Most of the rank and file parishioners in the US Catholic Church make up their own minds about this issue. They may not know about the whole Pope-speaking-with-two-voices thing, but they know that what they do in the privacy of their lives is their business, and that 19 kids and counting is a stupid thing to do.

So, who do the Republicans think they’re courting? The clergy? Hell, some of the most ardent supporters of reproductive health and family planning are Catholic nuns, and they know the rhythm method doesn’t work!

My favorite all-time cartoon about this from at least 20 years ago showed a frazzled Italian mother with multiple kids hanging on her skirt as she shook her finger in the Pope’s face and told him “You don’t playa the game, you don’t maka the rules!”

A referendum IS the way for the voice of the people to be heard.

What’s all this flap about, anyway? The only difference between “civil union” and “marriage” is semantic… equal protections are provided under the law. Is this just more “in-your-face” nonsense?

Maybe it seems frivilous now because the mandate is something you consider good. But what about whatever mandate might next come down from above?

I believe that since ‘withdrawal’ was the only method of birth control that was popular during the Prophet’s (pbuh) lifetime, then nothing is wrong if advanced methods such as birth control pills or condoms are used for teh same purpose.

Now, there are some Muslims who disagree with any abortion other than those mention above, however Islamic belief is that the ‘rooh’ (Roughly translated as ‘soul’) does not enter the body until after several months, hence many Islamic scholars agree that abortion is okay within this period for all cases. Another point that bolster the case for abortion in Islam, is if a baby is still born, that baby is not given a ‘Janaza’(Islamic burial rites). This means that the baby is not recognized as a living being until and unless born alive and even after the ‘rooh’ enters the body.
Personally, I find the Islamic view much more enlightening and as a perfect middle ground.

You are correct; DADT repeal does not mean there is full parity for LGBT veterans. Let me assure you however, that SLDN has not forgotten about these vets and they continue to remain a top priority.

We have recently filed a lawsuit challenging DOMA as well as several articles under US Code that would extend benefits to married service members and veterans alike. We will continue to pressure the VA and DoD until full equality exists.
