His novels involve high level politics, incest, war, fighting, murder, assassination and sex. . .all the things that Republicans seem to love in real life, if you think about it, but George R.R. Martin, the author of “A Game of Thrones” is not happy with the Republican Party. Martin recently posted a blog article where he attacks “Republicans and their Teabagger allies”. His gripe with them? Voter suppression.
Martin is referring to the recent voter purges in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida and Iowa, and stated that “The people behind these efforts at disenfranchising large groups of voters (the young, the old, the black, the brown) are not Republicans, since clearly they have scant regard for our republic or its values. They are oligarchs and racists clad in the skins of dead elephants.”
Martin is from Bayonne, NJ, and is an ardent Democrat. He Called President Obama “the most intelligent president we’ve had since Jimmy Carter.” Martin has gotten some 162 comments about his blog post- the majority of which have been positive and in agreement.
Martin replied to one of those:
“FWIW [For What It's Worth]… I am pretty upfront about my political views… but I also strive to keep contemporary politics out of my medieval fantasies.
Mind you, there are certain themes that are universal — musings on power, justice, the purpose of government — and those will inevitably be a part of any book that treats with kings and wars, etc.”
Studies have shown that voter ID fraud is pretty much non-existent.
