Adam Lambert Responds To SWA’s Booting Of Hailey and Grey From Flight

Camila Grey And Leisha Hailey

Ah…well, the reactions about Leisha Hailey and her girlfriend being kicked from a flight on Southwest Airlines have started to come, and the usually mild mannered Adam Lambert was one of those who tweeted in response to it. Her girlfriend, Camila Grey, was a keyboard player for Adam while on the road for a year. They even talked about the incident, so Adam is well aware of what went on.

Responding to a number of comments on his Twitter feed, Lambert stated several things:

“Cam played keys for me for a year on the road. We just spoke about it. I DO know the real story.”

“News: kissing is NOT indecent behavior. No matter what sex u are. So if two of the same sex are sweetly kissing, get over it!”

“No one bats an eye when straight couples kiss in public. When a gay couple does it’s “not family friendly”. #doublestandard”

Responding to one person in particular, Adam stated about those who complained about the kissing “I expect them to challenge themselves to accept what they may not understand. To respect others rights and to grow up!”

For one of the sweetest and kindest people on the web, it is hard to imagine Adam getting as angry as he seems in these tweets. Of course, he is not alone. A lot of people are furious at the treatment of Leisha and Camila. In fact, the two of them, who are the duo Uh Huh Her, took to their Twitter feed to state “I call for a boycott for @SouthwestAir for their intolerance. Period. Unacceptable. Keep hearing more stories of these incidences. Insane!”

Adam retweeted a lot of their tweets.

The LGBT Community is behind Leisha and Camila in this. What happened was unacceptable.

Editor’s Note: There has been some question as to whether or not Camila Grey is Hailey’s girlfriend. According to NBC and the AP, she is. They wrote “A flight attendant escorted the lesbian actress and her girlfriend, Camila Grey, off the plane after other passengers complained about the couple’s public display of affection, The Associated Press reports.”

Hello Bridg! We meet again! (Remember me? I got you to drop the formality (Mr. Lambert) & just call him “Adam”);)
I think a lot of folks missed the POINT here. It doesn’t matter if it was Camilla or another woman kissing Leisha. It was Two persons of the SAME SEX.And SWA totally overreacted.
    That’s the real story.
And I adored your comment about “starting to wonder if he had every angry bone in his body cloned out of him or something” Hahaha!!
You ARE a fairly new Glambert Bridg. While it’s true that Adam exercises great control over his temper MOST of the time…he has been known to be FIERCELY protective of friends, any LGBT bullying AND of his fans.
In Washington DC on his Glam Nation tour, you can SEE him kick a big, burly security guard who was bugging a fan about her camera! Adam kicks him, then “shoos” him out while singing/screaming “GET OUT!” You can watch it here at about 2:34 in the video. Ferocious!ENJOY!

Thanks for the article Bridg! :D ~Rose~

      Hiya Rose,

I can understand Adam’s mindset. I am kind of the same way, in fact lol. Thank you, though :)

I did want to add that what happened to Leisha is disgusting. Even if they were going at it with the PDA, which she claims was not the case, if it were a heterosexual couple, other passengers might have been annoyed, but they would not have complained nor would they have been removed from the plane. Intolerance in this country is unbelievable.

Cam IS NOT Leisha’s girlfriend. They are the duo that makes up Uh Huh Music. Adam is aware of the situation because of Cam being his close friend, but it’s common knowledge that Leisha’s GF is not Cam – I don’t care what those other news sources say.

Also, it’s not unusual for Adam to support his friends, whether it be to promote their art or intolerance toward them. He is a loyal friend.

      Robin,

According to the AP and NBC, Cam IS Leisha’s girlfriend. They may be wrong, but I am getting conflicting reports on this so I am keeping the story as it stands.

Of all the things that have happened on board flights these days, all the threats of terror that could potentially cause great destruction and death of innocent people, I would think kissing, regardless of sexual orientation would be the least of the airline’s concerns. I am happy to see Adam step up and make his voice heard. He posesses the innate ability to influence and inspire others to stand up for themselves. If we let the ultra conservatives take over the world, we may all loose some of our basic freedoms and our ability to express ourselves within the confines of what is in good taste. Kissing is an expression of affection for a fellow human being, that is what it is.

I’m not sure you have all the facts. We don’t even know if Cam is Leisha’s girlfriend nor do we know that she was even on the plane. Where did you find that Cam is Leisha’s girlfriend? How do you know she was even there with Leisha? According to the bio of Leisha Hailey she has been dating someone else, fashion designer Nina Garduno. Maybe you should do some research before publishing?

I certainly could be wrong. I found it via one of the sites I checked in doing my original piece. I will make a note of this, though. Her bio does not mention her dating Nina Garduno. I do research, btw; however, occasionally, my information can be wrong. The article that I got this information from has now been rewritten to reflect that they were misinformed. This does happen.

Her bio mentions it in the last sentance of the first paragraph.

Ok, I missed it. I have changed the article to reflect the new information. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. My original information was incorrect, but that does happen, and I am more than willing to correct my stories when I am in error.

ok, we also have NBC and the AP saying that Grey is Leisha’s girlfriend http://www.nbcchicago.com/entertainment/celebrity/L-Word-Star-130629223.html So, I have gone back to the original and posted my absolute source on this. I am not sure what else to say.

I think that Cam was not on the plane. Leisha was with her girlfriend who is not Cam but someone else. I think Adam would have spoken up about this regardless of who it was but he was very upset because it was a personal friend of his. Two things that really set him off are discrimination against gays (that double standard he speaks of) and bullying of gays. During the same twitter session he chose to remind us that the fight is still ongoing when he responded to someone who tweeted him to “stfu you gay fuck”. Adam replied with one word “bully”.

I don’t think anyone should be openly making out in public no matter who they are but if it was just sweetly kissing a couple of times then it seems pretty clear they were discriminated against b/c of their orientation.

Well, kissing on board? So what? I mean if they do not do disturb others, let them kiss! Being homo is not wrong, I hate it when ppl don’t accept it. In my country, all the LBTGs have to pretend that they are straight cause almost everyone thinks that LBTGs are totally stupid and psychotic. Only very few people have announced their community that they are LBTGs ( I declared that I am a bi )and yes, they do have to face all these condescending looks from friends and even family! We totally need change!

Adam’s tweets are probably correct in this article, however, there is some miscommunication or assumptions about who Leisha was with on that flight. Leisha and Cam are recording and touring artists (UhHuhHer)and therefore apparently are friends; but, according to an interview video I saw online, Leisha has or had another person as her ‘significant other’ for years. This is an unusually involved public response for Adam Lambert, but I think he is hurt when his friends are hurt. I also think he fights harder for others’ than he does for himself.

The information that I have is that the two are girlfriends, and that they were both on the flight together. And, yes, it is also nice to know that Adam can get upset. I was starting to wonder if he had every angry bone in his body cloned out of him or something.

…..perhaps the FA was not following corporate perspectives and acting on his/her own agenda. It will be interesting to hear SW response. Adam writes, “I expect them to challenge themselves to accept what they may not understand.” I think we all have to accept that challenge in all aspects of our society.

Was it because of the way they were kissing or simply just the fact that they WERE kissing? Would the flight attendant have stopped a straight couple from doing the same thing? Would there have been any complaints to begin with if they were not of the SAME sex? Who determines WHAT ‘family friendly’ means? The flight attendants? If you’re going to have ‘rules’ make them known by having a sign that says … NO KISSING … just like there’s a sign that reads … NO SMOKING … and apply it to EVERYONE … it’s still a FREE country!!

Anyone that thinks they must have been making out in order to get complaints so there must be more to the story is living in a dream world. In even the most liberal metropolitan areas, two girls or two guys just holding hands often results in scandalized or hateful looks, sometimes worse.

Unless you think they’re lying about it, they’ve said flat out that it was just a “small peck.” I believe Leisha and her girlfriend (was it Cam? that’s not actually clear) and Adam rather than some conglomerate airline in damage control spin mode out to cover their ass.

From what I understand, GLAAD has actually partnered with Southwest on some initiatives for their company. Now is when we see if it is only lip service and GLAAD folds under corporate pressure, or whether there will be true consequences for placing the complaints of bigots over the rights of LGBT people to simply live their lives the same as their straight counterparts.

One of them (Leisha?) described it as just a peck. And Adam Lambert said he had spoken to Camila Grey and seemed – as you noted – pretty heated about suggestions it had been OTT. These women don’t have a history of trying to cause drama – and this isn’t a couple of teenagers. So I believe them. Also, as someone who really doesn’t enjoy anyone’s pda and travels a lot – I’ve seen/heard a lot of things I wish I hadn’t and exchanged eyerolls w/fellow passengers. But not once over the years has anyone on one of my flights asked a couple to dial it back – of course none of those couples were same sex. I’ve always liked Southwest – would be nice to see them step up and do the right thing. Better late than never.

Where is the real story? Were they just kissing once or were they really going at it. I don’t like straight couples doing that. Nothing is wrong with a kiss straight or gay, but I admit I don’t want to see it go overboard.
